Hi,
Im from the United Kingdom, and i was wondering if colleges in the US do scholarships for international students. I would prefer to study in California (UCLA, USC, UC Berkely, Stanford University). My parents have a very low income, which means i am not able to pay the full fee, without my parents going broke :(

If not, is there any other ways you can think off.

BTW, which of the universities that i mentioned, has the best Education, Party, Hottest student body and a little greek-life, all-in-one.

I’d suggest having a good look around this site - plenty of people (myself included) have asked similar questions before. The people on this forum can be a fantastic resource, but you’d be well advised to do some background reading, and then try asking some more specific questions. That said, I’d be glad to offer a little advice to a fellow limey. Bear in mind, however, that I’m by no means an authority - just another would-be student like you. Oh, and it’s UC Berkeley, by the way ;-).

Some colleges do offer (merit based) scholarships to international students, but they’re insanely competitive, especially at anywhere approaching the standard of the colleges you’ve listed. The UCs are public (as in what British people would call “state system”), and so offer very limited aid to those from out of state. Stanford, too, have a repution for stinginess with aid for internationals, and are insanely difficult to get into in the first place.

Other colleges (particularly the rich, elite ones) do offer decent need-based aid to international students, but they’re pretty damn difficult to get into in the first place. One major factor is whether a college is “needs blind” for international students - check out [Need-blind admission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Need-blind admission - Wikipedia) for an explanation of what this means, and a depressingly short list of colleges that offer it.

Once you’ve narrowed down your list according to financial factors, try UNIGO, [College Admissions, Search, and Financial Aid Help from College Confidential](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/), studentsreview, collegeprowler and princetonreview’s college-rankings for some more background information. Oh, and don’t make a big deal about the “hottest student body” or everyone will think you’re a serious tool.

Anyway, good luck - hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along in a bit.

Oh, and does anyone else think we should sticky one of these “first time” posts? Hopefully one that’s been replied to by someone more knowledgeable/experienced than me.
