My D received her acceptance packet today. We live in Ventura County. Has anyone received notification of any scholarships with your acceptance packets? Or might these come separately?

In the past, scholarship notifications for the March acceptances were sent from the first week of April on by mail and email notifications arrive as they are added to your financial aid (the email will say, "a change has been made to your financial aid…). They will show up on your financial aid page (even if you did not apply for financial aid) at about the same time as the financial aid packages are released.

In some cases, scholarships including University scholarships and departmental awards arrive in late April. I am aware of some being posted as late as April 27th, so WAIT* to submit commitment deposits - there is NO advantage to committing early, and an extra scholarship might impact your decision.

I have also seen a few posts about scholarship notifications included in with the admission, but those have been rare (except for the early group invited for scholarship interviews).

Good luck!!!

*You can register for housing without making your commitment deposit - just submit the $40 housing deposit as soon as you get your admission, it is well worth it if you are considering USC.

Thanks for the advice alamemom. Do you know if the NMF scholarship will be posted on the fin aid site during April? We would really need to see that before committing.

Yes, it will show up on financial aid around the end of the first week of April. In the meantime, accepted NMS should check to be sure they have USC listed as #1 with the National Merit Corporation.

If it does not appear by mid-April, FAX or email in a copy of your correspondence from National Merit Corp naming you a NMS to both USC admissions and financial aid and follow up with a phone call until you get the assurances you need that the scholarship has been credited.

Congratulations!

whonrock,

At SC a $1000 per year scholarship from the NMFoundation is added to the half tuition NMScholarship. There is a POSSIBILITY that departmental or alumni grants can be added to this. I know of an individual who is giving two smaller grants to incoming freshmen at one of the larger SC schools. Neither of the students has yet been notified of the selection.

Follow alamemom’s posts about USC financial aid. You will find them a great resource.
