Scholarships for Prep Schools

Hey everyone,

Are their any options for scholarships for prep schools such as Milton Academy or Phillips Exeter or Choate? They are quite expensive and I do not qualify for Financial Aid, but are amazing schools. If so, what certain categories are there for scholarships? (Ex. Math prodigy, excessive amount of Community Service, music prodigy etc.)

Some schools offer merit scholarships. Off the top of my head, Peddie, Mercersburg, and Solebury come to mind.

I’ve heard Choate gives them as well, but don’t quote me.
Also, more people qualify for financial aid then you think.

For the schools listed above, you have to make 150K or less for them to even consider your application.

You mean with FA, right? Because it’s probably the people who make 150k+ who attend boarding school the most.

And that under 150k criteria is met by most of America.

Yes, I do mean FA, in response to GryffinHunter’s post. I’m am not boarding to my next school though. Also, what exactly is a “merit scholarship”?

A scholarship awarded on merit.

Choate has merit based scholarships

What about Milton or Exeter? @sgopal2‌
What would the qualifications for merit scholarships be? @mrnephew‌
Sorry for all the questions, I’m really new to this.

Research them. They’re different for every school.

And just look it up on their websites. I’m sure they have information there.

You also would not get a merit scholarship if you didn’t apply for it. (Since you have already got into Milton.)

Are Merit scholarships only applicable to boarding students?

It probably differs per school. This is a subject that can be researched on the school website.

Unfortunately, Milton nor Exeter offer Merit Scholarships

There are many factors that influence financial aid. Schools will in fact look at applications with incomes over 150K. I just ran the exeter profiler for a family of 4 with an income of 200,000+ and it returned:

We currently have 17 families of this profile who are receiving between $6,600 and $38,900 in financial aid. The average is $24,186.

Thanks @RedSoxFan18‌ … coincidentally, I ran the profiler too in the last hour and was pleasantly surprised to learn the numbers. However, the fine prints say these numbers are for boarders.

My DD got the acceptance packet yesterday from Choate. She got the headmaster’s scholaship!
We didn’t apply for it but came with the packet.
Below is copied from choate website.
It also pays for her college search trips.

'Headmaster’s Scholars

This program is designed to attract, select and provide support to outstanding scholars each year, regardless of their family’s ability to qualify for financial assistance. These students are chosen by the admission committee and are considered to be among the most competitive applicants in the admission pool in that given admission cycle. In addition to regular gatherings with the Headmaster and the Program Coordinator, Headmaster’s Scholars receive various stipends, among them a $10,000 grant to participate in an experience that further nurtures creativity, feeds innovation, or develops leadership skills.’

Oops! My DD just told me that it ‘assists’ her college search trips
