scholarships for transfer students

I tried very hard in high school to do everything right to get into whatever college I wanted. I attained pretty high test scores, an excellent gpa and class rank, took rigorous courses, and participated in many extracirriculars, including 3 varsity sports. I took so much time to search for the perfect college, but unfortunately, I feel that I have chosen the wrong one. As a first semester freshmen, I absolutely hate it down here, and I don't how long I can take it. I really want to transfer (even as soon as next semester), but the problem is that transfers no longer get the school scholarships like freshman do. Last year, I applied to many schools and recieved all kind of merit-based scholarships, but they are lost now and there is no way of getting them back.

My question is, not whether I can transfer, because I know I could probably get into all but a few colleges I wanted, but if anyone has any suggestions for what I can do to bring the cost of tuition lower. Right now, most schools, even state schools, have a tuition of 30,000, which is way above my family's affordability (but we are not eligable for any financial aid). Also, I live in Ohio, which is like the worste state ever for giving aide to in-state students.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I have the same problem. I hate my school now, and the school I want to transfer to would've given me tons of money if I had applied during my senior year in high school. It really sucks knowing that if I didn't make a mistake, I wouldn't be wasting so much extra money. I also believe some schools have transfer scholarships.

uuugh, so frustrating, isn't it? Do you know of any nationally ranked schools that offer these transfer scholarships? I did a google search, but I only found third and fourth teir schools that have them.

Howard is a nationally ranked school which has transfer scholarship which covers all your tuition and fees, and it's not 3rd or 4rd tier.

by the way,I have done a lot of research into this question before.
most schools are only willing to give first-time freshman remarkable scholarship.transfer scholarship may be only 1000-2000 dollars.

I'm in the same situation as Jingle and Potato. I really dislike my current school, and am looking to transfer ASAP. Unfortunately none of the tier-one schools really offer any type of significant merit-based aid to transfer students. My dream school right now costs $40,000+ and transfer scholarships available top out at maybe $4,000, which would only scrape the tip of the total cost. At this point, I'm likely going to take a loan to pay for the rest of my education.

From what I have seen if you want some need-based aid, you're better off transferring for Fall 2008, because that is when colleges assess and award need-based aid. But for the OP, if money is seriously an issue in the family and you do not want to take a loan, your best deals would be your own public in-state options. Ohio State and Miami University are respectable schools, and if you have good grades, you may still be able to get some merit-based aid.

I wanted to transfer for the spring semester but I'll have to settle for fall 2008 instead because of the money.
