I have been thinking about the best ways to pay for college with out coming out of pocket. I know some times you might have to take loans or something of that nature, but what are the best scholarships to get to help pay for college? I know residents of Georgia always work towards the HOPE Scholarship but, what else would be a great scholarship to obtain besides it
?

Thank you in advance for any answers.

As this is on the Georgia Tech forum, I will specifically answer regarding Tech scholarships. You may have additional luck looking through the scholarships section of this forum for programs outside of Tech. You are correct that many students at Tech have HOPE. I am assuming that you are out of state, in which case you are not eligible for either HOPE or financial aid. Take a look at the following:

[Georgia Institute of Technology :: Financial Aid :: Scholarships :: Additional Opportunities](<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Financial Aid”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Financial Aid)

You may or may not be eligible for some of those scholarships. You apply for those directly to the sponsoring organization. Through the office of financial aid, there is also the presidents scholarship, which is very competitive, in addition to provost scholarships. Also, become active in your local alumni club–almost all of them offer scholarships to GA Tech students.

If you are starting in Fall 2011, most scholarship deadlines have passed. Consider speaking with your family and/or a financial advisor about the pros and cons of loans.

If you’re looking to graduate debt free I would recommend participating in the co-op program. I know a few people doing it and they’ve all got great jobs (while still in college) that pay well – I mean you’re basically getting full-time pay at a leading company for ~4 semesters. It’s great work experience too!
