Scholarships that require "demonstrated financial need"

Every time i feel that a scholarship fits me i scroll down and see the dreaded "must demonstrate financial need" bullet under eligibility. Unfortunantly for me, my parents are fairly high incom earners and according to the FAFSA can pay the full price of a private university. I However, i do need financial assistance if i wish to attend a private U. I am having a difficult time finding scholarships to which i should apply. Should i bother writing essays and filling out apps for these scholarships that require demonstrated need or is it not worth the time? Has anyone else been in this situation and recieved some of these scholarships?

If the scholarship specifically requires demonstrated need, then you probably won’t qualify. It depends on what they consider demonstrated need. Typically it’s when you subtract your EFC from the total cost of attendance. What’s left is your need. If there are some compelling reasons why your EFC does not reflect your economic reality, then you could try to make a case for you need by presenting some account of your family’s situation. (High medical costs? some other extenuating circumstance?) If it’s just a matter of your parents not wanting to pay that much, then it probably won’t fly.
