Scholarships

For the scholarships based on merit, do you need to maintain the gpa for the rest of your senior year? Or does it just need to be high enough when you submit your application?

need to maintain it for your whole senior year to keep it! I should know…i got an academic scholarship and have to stay above a 3.8 to keep it!!

iustudent40, I would not worry about the scholarship being revoked. Get the best grades you can, though. I’ve never heard of it happening. Here is a thread on the topic.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/indiana-university-bloomington/811765-question-about-automatic-academic-scholarships.html</a></p>

There is nothing in the automatic scholarships FAQ-- which is where it would probably appear-- about revoking because of senior year grades.

<a href=“Future Scholars: Office of Scholarships: Indiana University Bloomington”>Future Scholars: Office of Scholarships: Indiana University Bloomington;

hopefully it isn’t revoked because that would seem like a detterent to take hard classes. My schedule has been very hard so i have gone down from a 3.8 and if i don’t have this scholarship i can’t afford IU!

refer to your letter that tells you of your academic scholarship…my reads:

“This offer is based on the information available at the time of review and is contingent upon the successful completion of any coursework outlined in your application. You are expected to MAINTAIN your current level of academic performance with integrity.”

I read that as maintaining my 3.8 to keep MY $36k scholarship. If it goes below that…I could have my scholarship lowered. I have had friends lose their scholarships for slacking…(not referring that you are - some people just give up because they are tired of working so hard)

Maybe you should call IU to be sure…

Good luck!

The automatic scholarships have been around for at least five years. I have never heard of one being revoked, and at least four hundred Indiana students get them every year. Revoking $9,000 per year scholarship for falling a fraction below 3.8 would get IU a lot of bad press and ill-will from in-state high schools and the general public. Most schools make a very big deal near the end of the school year announcing major scholarships that their students have received-- and almost always before final grades are recorded. “You are expected to MAINTAIN your current level of academic performance with integrity” is a very vague statement.

bthomp1:

Understand what you are saying, but for me - I will work to keep my GPA above the 3.8 - just to be sure…because at the end of the day -to me - my integrity is maintaining the GPA that got me the scholarship in the first place - not saying anyone is wrong here…just this is how I roll.

if someone is struggling, and falls below it, then its up to IU to decide what to do. That’s why I thought iustudent40 should call and ask if they are worried! never hurts

Yeah, he should call. Just not not give them his name.

I think a lot of gpa’s might slip during senior year, not just from senioritis, but from taking more APs or other harder classes.
