Scholarships

Has anyone ever lost a scholarship due to low GPA? If you are able to bring up your cummulative GPA the following semester can you regain your scholarship, or is it gone completely?

While I (fortunately) cannot speak from personal experience (I’d probably have wrung my s’s neck if he lost his scholarship), I would bet that if you make an appointment to talk to the Dean and discuss the situation, you might be able to address these questions/concerns. I seem to remember hearing that you can get the scholarship reinstated if you meet the criteria (eg minimum GPA) but I can’t recall where I heard that. Good luck.

Yeah, I am not sure where I heard that either, although I tend to think we read it here a long time back. It does say on the web site that students suspended for disciplinary or honor violations will forfeit the remainder of their award, so one could conclude that the omission of GPA in this sentence would imply you might be able to get it back. But of course without explicit statements to that effect it is only an inference. In any case, I think you are totally correct that a discussion with Dean MacLaren or whoever is appropriate would be the way to go.

i know in certain circumstances they will put you on probation for the following semester and allow you to keep your scholarship if you get your grades back up. my freshman year roomie broke her leg the 2nd day of school (seriously, it was raining and she slipped and fell on the steps at JL) so that semester she missed a ton of class due to doctor’s appointments and having difficulty maneuvering to class (we lived in Monroe…you know how many flights of stairs that is) and her grades suffered. she went before a panel for some kind of hearing and they allowed her to keep her scholarship on the condition she raise her grades the next semester. so it’s possible…but hopefully you have some extenuating circumstances to explain how you got yourself there.

Why didn’t she use the elevator in Monroe?? Just wondering…

i was part of the katrina class! the elevators weren’t working for most of that semester.
