Scholarships?

Do you find out about scholarships online or through the mail? I qualify for legacy but haven't heard anything. I know I got in through the online portal but I haven't received a letter and I'm worried about the scholarship.

I've called admissions four times throughout this process and they've NEVER answered the phone, no matter the time of day I call. I've called to see if they received everything and no response to emails either.

I live in Maryland and my older brother attends Howard right now.

I applied late October.

I got an email telling me I got the Capstone Scholarship yesterday, so check your email. And if it’s not there don’t stress about because from everyone I talked to it seems like it’s guaranteed if you’re eligible. It’ll come.

I qualify for legacy but with my dec sat scores which they probably haven’t received yet. I also tried calling them to see if they’ve received my sat score but someone told me that not everyone who is eligible receives a scholarship.

Do you know how long it takes Howard to receive sat scores?

It took them like a week to receive my ACT and SAT scores, but it may vary. So you should probably continue to call until they give you an answer.

My daughter found out via email

I found out I got a scholarship through the mail. About the SAT/ACT scores, they usually receive them whenever college board sends them, but do they look at them then? Probably not, it really just depends of the time – if you send them in October/November they’ll probably look at them a bit earlier but do it in February/March and you’ll be in trouble (especially with Howard’s A building lol).

As far as the chances of you receiving a scholarship if you qualify? Probably 90%.

P.S. - if you’ve been calling lately, be patient ; we just got finished with finals a few week back and fewer staff members have been working in the A building because there are fewer students there to assist.

908kiddo congrats me too! what are you majoring in? and are you planning on goin to accepted students day?

I’m actually a freshman accounting major at Howard right now lol. Me and another poster on here Malikwal both are freshmen. Welcome to the Howard family! I’m here if anyone has questions about Howard life. Don’t be afraid to ask something lol

if you didn’t recieve a scholarship, can you still get a scholarship if you retake the act/sat and meet the qualifications?

I would contact the office of scholaships about that one

I would contact the office of scholaships about that one

They’re more than likely going to tell you that if your scores improve they will reevaluate giving you a scholarship

okay is it common for them to give people scholarships after their reevaluation?

908kiddo what dorm do you recommend staying in? Everyone says I should try to stay in drew.

I realized why I havent gotten contacted about legacy scholarship. I didnt send in my ACT scores of 27, only my SAT scores which are like 20 points to low. If I sent in my scores for ACT will they consider me again for the scholarship? I have already been admitted.

I took the ACT in February of 2011

Idk if they usually do but they told me they would give me a higher scholarship if I took my sats again. Ended up missing the last sat test since my state track meet was the same day.

Stay in drew!! You might be dreading the heat the first month but you’ll have so much fun. Your drew hall brothers got your back.

^ I can definitely co-sign that second paragraph lol

Has anyone received a scholarship letter this week?

So I was awarded the capstone scholarship and I accepted it, but my uw GPA lowered (very slightly, honestly) will I still be able to keep my scholarship if I bring my GPA back up to the minimum requirement? What if I don’t? Pray for me you guys, I have all a’s for the 9 weeks right now.

They won’t take the scholarship away from you now. If they awarded you the contract, they based it off of your stats up until that point (usually up until your junior year). Only way I believe you can lose it now is if the school rescinds your acceptance or if you don’t meet the scholarship requirements; I believe you must keep a 3.25 or something.
