Hello everyone, hope you are all having a fine day. Can anyone who knows much about Howard university or is/was a student/teacher etc. of the university tell me if I can get a freshman scholarship? I am eligible for a CAPSTONE scholarship but am afraid I might not get it. My scores are as follows: SAT- CR: 550 MATHS: 760 WRITING: 690
IELTS- OVERALL AVERAGE BAND SCORE: 8.0
GPA- 3.9/4.0 unweighted
Alot of ECs
Anyone please tell me if those scores can get me a guaranteed CAPSTONE or LEGACY scholarship? Thank you so much in advance.
P.S. I have also applied for Howard University as an EA applicant.
Hey, I know this is a delayed response but I am in the same boat as you. I have been calling the admissions office and financial aid department on a daily basis for international scholarship updates but they keep telling me that they will be sending out awards until the end of march. Well, today is the last day of March and I still haven’t heard back or received an email. Even though they cut scholarship funds, I still qualify for the CAPSTONE like you. My scores were:
CRITICAL READING: 710
MATH: 650
WRITING: 660
The range to qualify for a CAPSTONE scholarship is 1300-1390, and I got 1360 with a 3.92/4.0 unweighed G.P.A.
Three years ago, my sister got accepted, and got her scholarship info, LEGACY, by February of that year. My guess with the hold up is that international applicants are now being considered last for scholarships in the general pool of applicants. I believe for the CAPSTONE, there is now a need component that can only be verified by filling out FAFSA, which as a Canadian, I can’t complete. However, because my sister goes to the school, she has been running around trying to find me more info. The Director of the International Student Services advised her on my behalf, that I should accept the offer because there will ALWAYS be money for international students but that they haven’t been dispersed yet. Accepting now allows you to be considered first for these scholarships when they come out, and shows interest in the school. Also the school starts processing I-20s at the end of April, so time is of the essence as that takes a long time to get through. I accepted now so that I can really just follow up with the International Department, not the Undergrad Admissions Office, at this point. If things don’t work out with the scholarship, I will just enrol somewhere else, but i would have lost the $300 deposit I paid. All things considered, I am not at all impressed with the admissions process Howard is conducting this year. Very disorganized and discouraging to future applicants.
