They also give out Dunn Scholarships. I received one yesterday; I can't find out how many they give out, but they do say "a small number of applicants" I didn't even realized that Smith gave out merit scholarships. It's great

I believe that all the scholarship notifications go out at the same time.

I believe the number of Zollmans is around 5-6 a year...could be dependent upon how many actually accept. There are about 35-40 STRIDEs a year. I don't know how many Dunns but I don't think it's a lot. Congratulations to everyone who is receiving these terrific offers.

Great to hear of you women doing tremendously on the scholarship watch!!!!
I'm lovin' hearing you say how you didn't expect it, and that you were blown away by Smith's generosity. What a great place, heh?

STRIDE (Student Research in Departments) Scholarships: Selected on the basis of academic merit, Stride Scholars for class years 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 receive a four-year grant of $2,500 per year. For the class of 2010 and forward, Stride Scholars will receive a four year grant of $5000 per year. Each STRIDE student is also offered the opportunity to work on a research project with faculty during her first two years at Smith. These students receive a $1,700 stipend for the research position.

When I login my Smith account I see 38 500 k scholarship (includes 30k grant, 5k loan + job on campus)
When I first saw I was shocked!!! I could not believe my eyes that Smith can give such an amount to me. BTW I am an international. Smith is awesome. I pray to be accepted too!!!

I find it very interesting that they would award a scholarship or grant without acceptance. :)

Laureldj...STRIDE is an exceptional program. What an opportunity it is to be able to do research in your first two years of college! Most colleges offer that opportunity during the last year or two. STRIDE + Praxis = HAPPY :)

so they sent out the scholarship last Friday? uhm, by snail mails? if so, it means that i have to wait until this Friday then.... worried...

Rabbitsaregreat - I'm a Dunn Scholar too! I live in southern California and I just got my letter today (Monday).

i got STRIDE and i live in southern california too. just got it today. so happy!!

Congrats chickgeek and Jenniferlp18!!!!

DS's GF got a STRIDE letter today, we are so excited for her

Congrats Spikemom! Great news.

I'm not sure whether to put this in Engineering at Smith, which seems to have been hijacked, or here. i recieved a Picker Engineering Fellowship letter today, and other than that its $10,000 /year for all four years if I do engineering I don't know anything. Is there stuff besides the money? anybody else out there with it, especially a current student, who can help?

I got the STRIDE letter yesterday!

Congrats, Coquettish! I was wondering if you got a letter.

"i recieved a Picker Engineering Fellowship letter today, and other than that its $10,000 /year for all four years if I do engineering."

The Picker fellowships were set up at the same time the engineering program was inaugurated to ensure that they had top flight students. So there are no other requirements other than that you major in Engineering. (Engineering students with a 3.5 GPA are guaranteed admission to the engineering graduate programs at Princeton, Tufts, Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame, and the University of Michigan - no other program in the country can make a similar claim.) Congratulations!

Not Princeton- Dartmouth.

Thanks. The link is especially helpful RLT. Do you know if they provide some sort of support/faculty mentor like STRIDE? I'm a little worried, cause the physics department at my school is the pits.
Also Congratulations to Coquettish, americanqypsy, and everyone! Sounds like the Class of 2010 is pretty darn talented!

{{Do you know if they provide some sort of support/faculty mentor}}

Absolutely! Smith has all the support a student requires in all the majors. Youll never be left alone to struggle should you hit a rough spot--not that you will. Faculty, Deans and fellow students are always available for tutoring. advice, etc.

Btw--Congrats :)
