okay, so i got into the BU accelerated med. program and I was ecstatic, but I didnt receive any info about merit awards in my acceptance letter. I didnt fill out FAFSA but should I call the office and ask about that if nothing comes in within the next week or so? I REALLY want to go to this program, but money is really a big issue in terms of convincing my parents and whatnot....

See my previous posts on this topic and you'll note that I would absolutely recommend you call and email the right contact at BU. You have nothing to lose.

Merit aid is generally used to draw kids that have also been accepted at more competative schools so that it helps "tip the scales" toward BU. That was the case with our S. Since the accelerated MD program doesn't need to do that they may not give out any or much merit aid. Still, it can't hurt to call.

Financial need is noted as one variable in the Dean's Scholarship but the Univ. Scholarship, half tuition, is MERIT ONLY with no regard to need so it is typically used to attract kids that do not qualify for financial aid but would benefit from help covering college costs. That is why you need to do a FAFSA for Deans but nothing for the University Scholarship when applying for Freshman year at BU.
