Scholarships

Hi!

So I was recently awarded the Presidential Scholarship after filling out my AUSOM general application (33 ACT, 4.4 GPA). There are a ton of scholarships left on the portal that say I’m being automatically considered for them. What are the odds that I actually get a general/departmental scholarship and when would I find out?

Thanks!

I don’t know about the odds, but I read somewhere that departmental scholarships are awarded mid-late April.

Thanks!

I think it also says that most department scholarships are given to those that have not received large university scholarships. Congrats on the Presidential!

My son is a finalist for an Elite departmental scholarship for which interviews are being held this weekend, this is on top of the Presidential he’s already received. I dont’ know when winners will eventually be notified but this leaves me to believe that it’s possible to get both and for anyone in the running for one, it’s likely they may have already received some sort of notification of being a candidate.

Yeah, but that’s for the Elite scholarships and not what OP is asking about. I read that the average amount received from gen/dep scholarships is about $500, but there is a bias in some cases for those who haven’t received a large scholarship already. Hope we’ll find out soon!

Thanks–and I hope so too!

That’s great! Would you mind posting the stars/credentials you used to earn the scholarship? It’ll give me and others ideas on what we need to have. And are you in state? I am an Alabamian myself.

Sure–
So like I said, 4.44 GPA weighted (3.93 un-weighted) and 33 ACT. I submitted my AP scores (5’s on US History, English Language, and Spanish Language, a 3 in Chem). I’ve done a ton of service hours and worked different jobs (there’s a spot on the application for a resume, so I just submitted mine). Then, there are two essays–something like Why are you a good candidate for a scholarship/why Auburn. And that’s about it. I think they base it more on the GPA and ACT scores than anything. I’m out of state, so a 33 was the cut-off ACT for me, but even though I was right on the border, I received my offer the day after I submitted the app. For in-state, I believe the minimum is a 32.

Hope this helps!

I just got notification of a departmental scholarship just this week. So at least the engineering department has started announcing. Check you AU email and AUSOM. That’s how I was notified.

Where on AUSOM is the scholarship notification? When my son logs on we get three tabs that say “application” “opportunities” and “donors”. He is in the business school so maybe they haven’t posted?

It’ll be under the “application” tab, down where it says “active applications”. You’ll get an email to your AU email and when you log into AUSOM there’ll be a banner at the top reminding you to accept your scholarship.
