So I'm still waiting on my financial aid from Emory (I know it's supposed to come by the end of this week). I was just on the finaid website and it makes it seem like there is NO merit aid unless you're in the scholars program, or a GA resident. Is this the case...can anyone clarify who has received theirs (or is a current student??)

I think you are mostly correct about merit aid although there are some additional merit scholarships offered other than the Scholars program.

yup...emory scholars is the only type of merit aid offered. I've been told this at severl info sessions. :(

so does emory give any grant money (no loans) based on financial need??

yes...they do give money based on financial need...but in terms of merit, it just Emory Scholars

merit scholarships are also offered through the barkley debate team (deadline has already passed) and the music department.

DayDreamBeliever, do you know if the grants are adjusted according to the total financial aid available each year? If so, how much of a change can I expect from year to year?

sorry...I don't know.

I didnt apply to the scholars program...which was definitly a mistake...i was wondering if i went to emory if i could apply as a sophmore or if my chances are shot...

My son is going to go to Emory. We just got back from a visit. He did not apply for merit aid --which was a mistaken for sure. I asked admissions if any other merit aid was available once he was there. The answer was that there is not much available after admisison. There are some opportunities if a professor puts your name in as a candidate. The majority of the merit aid budget is given to those who were sponsored by their high school counselor and applied for it early in the application process. I wish I would have known what I was doing. You cannot apply for the scholars program after admission.
