Please let me know if this is an inappropriate post, I’m definately not looking to offend anyone. WIth my son being the only family member to be involved in Theatre, we knew very little of this whole process. Sure wish I would have found this site a year ago, instead of in Novemeber. We were able to get to visit and audition on campus at several schools. Thankfully my son has been accepted into 3 of the 4 BFA programs he has audition for so far. Going in, I really didn’t think schools gave any money for Theatre. My son has been offered some Theatre scholarships, but I’m curious the amounts others are getting. I’m only wanting to know the amounts due to wondering if there is more Theatre scholarship money available? I do understand that all schools are different and can offer different amounts of scholarships. Not to mention many schools can offer accademic scholarships to help cover some of the school costs. I obviouslyunderstand that a lot of this can be based on the kids talent. I’m just wondering the amounts others are getting offered by schools. Again I’m not trying to affend anyone and I am definately not writting ths post to brag about what our kids are getting.
My son ended up going to a school where he got in-state tuition. Most of the other scholarships he got were enough to get him to within about $10K of that. I don’t know if actual dollar amounts help because tuition and scholarships vary by school.
In the interest of maintaining my daughter’s privacy, I won’t list specific amounts or schools, but of the three offers she has so far, it ranges wildly from very minimal amounts to far, far more significant amounts. That was for a combination of academic and talent scholarships. So there is money for Theatre, but it very, very much depends on the school.
It never hurts to ask for more, the worst they can tell you is no.
My S went through the process last year, and if I recall correctly, talent based scholarships were all over the place.
Some schools offer in-state tuition for their program, some offer large talent based amount, some only a little…some schools allow you to stack scholarships, some don’t…it really is all over the place, and even within your S’s results, I think you’ll find their doesn’t seem to be any type of ‘standard’ amount.
But I agree with @ElizaDoolittle 's comment of going back & asking for more, if it’s a top choice program.
