Scholarships

Looks like Rutgers is continuing to give out large merit scholarships... not quite a full ride, but not too far away from one :

From the admissions website--

University Merit Awards

Eligibility:

University Merit Award recipients are selected from among admitted students based on distinction in a variety of factors including academic achievement, results of standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, awards, honors, and the required application essay.

Annual Award and Terms:

These awards range from $2,500 to $10,000 and are renewable for up to three years provided that the award recipient maintains specified levels of academic achievement.

Are you automatically eligable for this scholarship when you apply on line (provided you wrote your essay) ? Or do you still have to go somewhere and fill something out?

It sounds like you're automatically considered.

Just an FYI: My son received an offer of admission in the mail this week without mention of a merit scholarship offer (like his older brother had received in the same envelope.) I called the admissions office and was told that in February Rutgers will send letters to the guidance counselors of any admitted student who scored a 1250 or above on the SAT (critical reading and math) to find out if s/he was in the top 10% of high school class. If so, a merit scholarship will be offered then.
