scholarships.

In my acceptance letter it said I was awared the Mount Holyoke Leadership Award for 20,000 a year. Is this different than the 21st century scholarship? On the website, it's kind of vague.

I got the 21st century scholar thing, and from what they told me it also includes an honors tutorial, funding for a summer internship, and invitations to certain social and academic shindigs.

Congratulations on the Leadership Award! It is a competitive award! The Leadership Award is given to students who are exemplary leaders with outstanding academic achievement; there is (or, there hasn't been) no commitment beyond accepting the award each year and keeping your GPA up. It is the school's belief that Leadership Award recipients will be more motivated to also be leaders upon arrival to campus.

It might be different for 2013, but I don't really know. There is a difference in scholarship-ranges. The 21st-Century Scholarship is a guaranteed renewable 20k, whereas the Leadership Award can be more or less than 20,000 dollars. The 21st-Century Scholars Program is given to a different group of students and has more benefits than the Leadership Award. It is primarily an academic award, given to students who the school believes would benefit from the extra resources/challenge. The 21st Century Scholars have a faculty tutorial, funding for an internship, invitations to big events, among other things. I know little about the 21st Century Scholars program since it is brand new for the class of 2013. Again, congratulations!! :)

where did you guys find out about the scholorships? on the desicion letter?

Any one know is the Leadership Award guaranteed for 4 years? Thanks.

<< Anyone know if the Leadership Award guaranteed for 4 years? <<

...will be renewed annually, up to a maximum of eight semesters for as long as a student is enrolled full-time and remains in good academic standing...
The following link will tell you a little more about the Leadership Award:Mount Holyoke College :: Merit Scholarships

And congratulations:-)!

Seem to be a lot of scholarship-earners on CC. How selective can they really be? ...no offense, I'm not getting down on them, as I have earned the MHC Leadership Scholarship, just wondering.

CC attracts the very best. Mount Holyoke accepts anywhere between 1300 and 1600 students per year; there aren't even 20 acceptees on this forum. Only 30 students (out of all acceptees... 30/1600 = 1.875%) are chosen as 21st Century Scholars, and that is highly selective. The Leadership Scholarship is not as selective, but is still an accomplishment. Don't complain that a school is giving you money!

no way, not complaining :) very pleased

mtholyoke2010, do you know how many first-year students receive a Leardership Scholarship? And does it come with any of the advantages and perks that accompany the 21st Century?
We could not find any detailed information on the web site and have not received any package from the school yet.

A handful of students are offered the Leadership Award. It might seem like a lot, but it really isn't that many. I'd say at least two/three times more people are offered Leadership Awards than 21st Century Scholars (between 60 and 90, I think, which is still a small number out of 1600). There are no advantages or perks to the Leadership Award. It is given to people the school thinks are outstanding leaders with academic excellence, with the hope that they will continue to be outstanding leaders with a great academic record. It is renewable for four years, though.

I am a lot more familiar with the Leadership Award, since it has been the standard scholarship Mount Holyoke has given people with academic excellence until this year (top of the applicant pool)... so your daughter should feel proud!

I hope this helps you!

When did everyone get their acceptance letters and is the dollar amount of scholarship posted in it? I know I'm accepted from checking online but it doesn't mention anything about scholarships and I have not received my actual letter yet.

You can check your decisions (at least domestic students can) online; I was sent an email when mine was posted last Friday. I also learned I received a scholarship in my acceptance letter...
