Scholarships

Beloit seems to have many merit aid scholarships, and a few where you go to campus and interview in January and February. Does anyone know how likely it is that you will get one of these scholarships if you go? I live very far away so I would definitely have to fly, but it would be worth it if I actually thought I had a good shot of getting one (as in, there aren’t only one or two given).

Any info?

Beloit awards quite a few merit scholarships. If you meet the criteria and are invited to campus for a scholarship interview, it would almost certainly be worth your time (and money). Here is a thread from last year that provides a little more info about the scholarship interview process:

So do you have to be invited? On the website, it almost looks as though you can just fill out an application and pick a date.

Are you a student there?

My daughter is a student there. Back when she was applying, she received either a letter or a postcard (can’t remember which) inviting her to attend one of the scholarship weekends. You have to meet certain academic criteria to be eligible. I’m sure that as long as you meet that criteria (it’s on the website), you can sign up for one of the weekends even if you don’t get an invitation via snail mail.

My D is a student at Beloit too. I do not know how many scholarships they give out from the weekend visits but definitely more than one or two! It may well be worth your while to come for one of the weekends but perhaps you should talk to your admissions counselor to get more information. Also, you can fill the form out online - as far as I know you don’t need an invitation to do so -at least 2 years ago you didn’t. I believe D filled it out quite late in the game. Do fill it out. Do call admissions with any concerns you have - they are tremendously helpful.

My D just got accepted EA, and heard – yesterday – that she qualified for Presidential Scholarship consideration, with an invitation to visit on the January or February weekend. She’s excited, as she hasn’t visited Beloit yet (my son and I visited 2.5 years ago, he liked it a lot, but ended up elsewhere), and is looking forward to visiting.

But yes, from what I understand, you have to apply for the Presidential scholarship separately and visit Beloit (and interview) on one of the weekends. The Eaton and Trustee scholarships (which are also quite generous) are granted without a separate visit.

I also recall that the Admissions Department at Beloit was exceptionally kind, patient, and helpful answering our questions. I would second the earlier recommendation regarding asking them questions about scholarship requirements. Good luck.
