Scholastic Art and Writing Awards 2018-2019

Also, responding to comments about the competition seeming stiffer this year, you were right! According to my region’s directors, due to the large volume of entries in the past few years, only 5% of regional entries were able to receive a gold key, rather than the 10% in recent years.

@musicer16 Have you ever been to a regional ceremony before? I would like to know what it’s like. Especially if I should invite my educator

@galactoc I’ve been twice, and I’ve a had a great time! I think it differs by region though. In my region we walk across stage and then they present special awards.

Wow I wish West Region at Large did ceremonies or exhibitions.

@musicer16 That sounds amazing! A stage! Like dude I wish I was in your region! We’re in a much smaller room within a Library and we just walk up to the front of the room to get acknowledged. It’s nice though, because of how small it is it’s pretty intimate and it’s a very warm environment too that really emphasizes our community the support of our achievements.

Hey guys just an update. I applied to the Creative Writing Interlochen Summer camp for High School students and I GOT IN!! I’m ecstatic! I know Interlochen is pretty high up there but still I’m not sure what the acceptance rate is if it’s high or low, but either way I’m really excited and it’s comforting to know I’ll be doing something fun over the summer! :slight_smile:

@Lunarlitgend That’s amazing, congrats!!

@musicer16 Thank you so much! :smiley:

@StreenaSkywalker sameeee

Hey guys for the SAS Application when they ask “Please describe the uploaded files” do they want you to describe ALL of your pieces or just the few (even if it’s just one) pieces that mean a lot to you?

Does anyone know if the National Best-in-Grade is chosen from all the Gold Key submissions or if it is selected from just the Regional Best-in-Grade winners?

13 more days!

@LabMom4131 Sorry for the late response! But I think they choose B.I.G based on the works that we’re chosen to win a Gold Medal. That’s my opinion but I don’t know if that’s how they actually do it.

The wait is killing me! At least we’ve made it to March, it’s the home stretch!

@Lunarlitgend that would make sense since they don’t give BIG awards for region-at-large

Thanks @Lunarlitgend that makes sense, but @wistfulwords some Region-at-large do give out BIG awards.

@LabMom4131 I think you’re confusing Best-in-Grade awards with American Voices awards.

@beautifulchaos Nope, my daughter received a BIG award from one of the Region-at-large affiliates this year. Perhaps they are the only ones that do it though…?

One more week!

I got so caught up with SAS that I forgot about nationals 0-0
