I haven’t seen a thread for the 2016-2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Competition yet, so I decided to make one. I’m in the Northeast Region at Large and am planning to enter a couple of poems, short stories, and possibly something else, all though to be honest, I’m kind of afraid to ask my teacher to sponsor me and my parents to pay the submission fee… idk if it’s just me. Anyway, I’m curious to see what other people are submitting! Good luck to all!!
I’m thinking about submitting a critical essay and maybe also a personal essay. Is there anyone out there who has done this before? I’m kind of new to the competition . . .
this yr is going to be my first time submitting! i only have one piece ready though, and the deadline’s coming soon…do most people usually enter more than one work?
Hello all- regarding the rule on writing pieces and the no real names thing- If my piece is about a professional athlete do I still need fake names for every celebrity involved? What about teams???
I’m not sure. I was originally planning to submit multiple works, but decided on one (couldn’t get others done in time). This is also my first time submitting.
I don’t know if anyone else is here. (TBH It seems pretty dead compared to previous threads.) But I just submitted my essay and the deadline is officially over for the Northeast Region (I guess I’ll have to stop re-reading and actually go to sleep [-O<). Anyone else who already submitted?
Hi, the deadline is over but my artwork doesn’t seem to be showing up in the image. I’m really worried and I’ve been trying to e-mail the WA region but the e-mail won’t send through so I was wondering what to do.
Hi everyone! When your Scholastic Arts submissions were sent, what was the statement on your profile under each work? Was it “Submission Complete” or “Deadline has passed”?
@dianewrites All of my submissions say the deadline has passed, but I’m not worried. Didn’t you get the email that says “Thank you for submitting your work” and talks about notification dates?
@QMusic My submissions say deadline has passed as well but I received no such e-mail. My writing submissions said posted before the deadline and I sent in the signed paper for each one as well as paid online. Was there anything else I needed to do. I am worried now because I did not receive a confirmation e-mail.
I also never received an e-mail, I just mailed the signed submission forms and paid the submission fees online. I think maybe in certain regions they notify you but in other regions they don’t.
I guess they might not email all applicants in each region. Just in case you want to know the information in the email, I’ve pasted it below.
Dear Region-at-Large participant,
Thank you for submitting your work to the 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards! We’re excited to see the submissions you worked so hard to create and share with us. Starting in January, your submissions will be judged by professional artists and writers across the country.
Region-at-Large students are eligible to receive Gold Key, Silver Key, or Honorable Mention awards. Gold Key works will automatically advance to national judging.
A complete list of regional award recipients will be posted online on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 5:00 pm Eastern Time. More information about the award recipients list will be emailed by January 20.
Students who receive Region-at-Large awards will be notified by mail in mid-March. You will receive a letter of congratulations and your certificate(s). This is your proof of receiving a Scholastic Award. We recommend you save the letter and certificate(s) for future college applications.
Students will get a certificate for each awarded work. Gold Key and Silver Key recipients will get one gold and/or silver pin with their notification regardless of the number of awards they receive.
*Btw I’m in the Southeast Region, it may be different dates based on your region
Is it just me who some days think that I’m going to win national (lol), and the next day I think my writing is the worst thing ever and won’t win a single award?
