Scholastic competition senior portfolio length

Hey everyone! I'm a senior entering the Scholastic competition this year for my first (and last) time. I have 4-5 worthy pieces of writing that are about 1 page long (single-spaced) each. They are all on the same nonfiction theme and they have a nice variety of style, so I wanted to enter them in the senior nonfiction portfolio.

The only problem is that the page maximum for the portfolio is 50 pages. I will only have about six or seven pages. Will this hurt my chances because other people have eight long works or something? Should I enter my pieces separately in their respective categories instead?

I don't have much time to write so it's not like I can just write four more long works of quality before the contest submission deadline. Please give me any advice that you have. Thanks!

P.S. Three of my works are personal statements (some changed, some not) from college apps. Is this okay?

Update: I just realized that the deadline for my region is Dec. 17. As a result, I will only be able to submit the two pieces that I have ready. I will not be submitting a portfolio.

Is that the early one? I’m in region at large too and I’m offered a 1/7 deadline as well as the 12/17… Are you not offered both? Seems really unfair for the guidelines to make some miss out on the three extra weeks other people are getting.

Yeah, I put in my zip code and got 12/17. I’m confused about the deadline though…maybe I was offered a 1/7 deadline as well and didn’t know it. It does seem unfair…but I already sent off one submission anyways. It turns out that I will be doing college apps over winter break though so I probably won’t get time to write anyways.

Good luck!
