School background

Do you think School background would affect our admission process...

like when you come from a private expensive school, or top public school, you will have higher chance to get in to some colleges...

or it is just depends on our abilities...

what i meant school background is like high school reputation

The biggest differences between "top" high schools and others show up in the courses that kids take.
I've seen students on this board ask if they should take another year of language, or if physics is necessary. At many schools, "top" schools, using your words, these courses would be expected - everyone would take them. That means that percentage-wise, those students would be better prepared than the kids who stopped at lower level language and science courses.
Unfortunately the quality of your high school has a lot to do with your preparedness for college. "Ability" and potential are different, and harder to measure or predict. Colleges know this and look very carefully at kids who excell in spite of a less rigorous high school.
Kids at lower perfoming schools often take community college classes or summer courses to make up for what their high school lacks. These kids who show that kind of eagerness do very well in college admissions.

while theres already been a lenghty discussion on this on another post, the answer is a no with shades of yes. While yes, there are several handfuls of high schools that can get you into a specific school (for example i know you have to be a complete moron to not get into Boston College from my high school, about 20 applied in my year, and 20 got in, not the 20 best students mind you), and even fewer that can get you into any school - most schools, 99+% of the time, the high school you go to doesn't really affect college admissions. Its what you do there that does.

Also it should be pointed out that just because you go to a uppercrust high school, it doesn't mean you can slack off and go anywhere. USUALLY these really prestigious high schools are really hard - and so while you might only get say a 3.5 there, that could very well be a 3.9 or 4.0 at your local town public high school. colleges look at students in context to their school, so if the no. 1 kid ahs a 3.7 and you have a 3.5, thats goign to look better then say your 4.0 at joe public where the valedvictorian has a 5.1. But then again, you're 5.1 might on the grand scheme of things be seen as equal to that 3.7 student.

In short - its a much too convoluted system that doesn't really play any sort of significant role unless you go to a specific high school thats known for gettings its students into a specific college.

what about IB school.

Now im attending an IB school and doing Full IB diploma.
