So today I got an email saying corrections were made to my FAFSA. After calling they told me a college changed my grade level from 2nd to 3rd. I didn't even know a school could change my FAFSA, more importantly a school that has already rejected me (sort of, wait listed) and there is no way I have enough credits to be a junior I only have 41 credits. What do I do? Can they even do that? Do I need to contact the school I am going to to let them know this is incorrect info and was not done by me?

shameless bump

I had a school that I was not accepted to, log on to my FAFSA and change the amount of ‘cash/savings/checking accounts’ to $180,000! Why? Who knows. The Financial Aid office where I am going to go was able to see which school made the change. So I called them to ask why they were in my FAFSA to begin with, and why they made that change. They denied it up and down. I have since changed it back to the correct number (MUCH less than $180k), and hopefully everything is fine now.

I called FAFSA and made them aware of the change and they verified that it was the school in question who made the change. If you want to call them, here is the number 1-800-433-3243

Kinda scary that any school financial aid person can log in and screw things up!

Legally, schools are only permitted to log into a person’s FAFSA and make changes based on documented errors. Occasionally mistakes do get made and a figure is changed incorrectly and most schools are quick to change it to the correct figure. Sometimes, though, people are not honest. If a school makes incorrect changes to your FAFSA and cannot explain why they made the change, contact the FAFSA Technical Support Line and let them know. Please be sure that the change truly shouldn’t have occurred, don’t turn in a school because you don’t agree with the change.
