School Council Election! Ideas Please

Hey, I'm running for Treasurer for School council election
Any Ideas for my speech?
such as "I get A plus in my math class, ask Ms. XXX"
ANYTHING WOULD BE THANKFUL!

ANY IDEAS???

No, don't brag about your grades or such, for that makes it seem like it will just be another thing on your high school resume. Last week was my election and I pretty much know how to do everything about non-speech part, or school does not have them for some reason.

Anyways, You need posters. Mine were simple:MADDEN 4 JUNIOR V.P.. Put your slogan or whatever as big as you can, and make it bold. MAke many copies, with extras because several kids just tear them down.

I have a very good technique for getting your self known. Get several bags of blow pops, buy tags, put your slogan on the tags, and attach them to the pops. Then, hand them out to everybody. It is cliche, but effective. Highschoolers are like children, easily swayed by the sight of candy.

I would like to give more advice, but stuff to do before the final two days of elections next tues. and wed.

Good Luck:)

Wow.. a treasurer has to give a speech?...

Just make it memorable, and the math involved w/ being treasurer isn't that difficult. Explain how you're responsible you are and that you'll make sure all the money is going to the right place. Really can't think of anything else to say. How long does it need to be?

my school doesn't allow me to give out anything to students.
and I already finished making posters.
It's pretty good..

but what i'm worrying about is my speech... I'm hopelesss.
any ideas?

Be funny and you will win

our school is really small, every position has to give a speech including secretary and house captains

my speech will be 1 and a half minute... pretty short

It boils down to being a popularity contest, but what you should try to do is:

Try to build up a reputation for yourself in the months preceding an election. (if you haven't already)

Be nice to everyone and don't ever sound condescending or arrogant while campaigning.

If you have time, talk to as many people as you can, telling them why you are the right choice for the position you are running for. (i.e. creativity, leadership, etc)

comedy always wins...

School Elections are a lot like real elections for things such as US President - it's all about image. Present yourself as a fun-loving, friendly and amazing person who loves everybody and is morally pure. People don't look at policies unless both are the same in terms of likability. So don't give that stuff about "lol im so qualified" but instead mix a message of what you will do with just an aroma of friendliness and "plain-folk" stuff. Don't mention anything like AP Classes or academic achievment, unless people think you're an idiot and then you need to dispell those rumors. Many people cite things such as that and screw themselves because 1. No one cares, and 2. It sounds arrogant.

This strategy works - trust me, coming from a Student Government President.

Here, it's a popularity contest, hands down.

Well, for one of my elections, I pointed out the fact that I don't keep a laundry-list of ECs and useless leadership positions for my college resume. I also opened myself up and noted that I didn't have ANY kind of leadership so far and that this opportunity would be a great start because everybody needs to start at some point. I think you should just try to be really sincere and genuine about what you are running for.

For my DECA State President speech (to about 4k people), I talked about my aspirations and emphasized unity. Since I'm Chinese, I threw in "Chopsticks work in pairs, a single chopstick cannot pick up food" and Albert Mensah's quote of "Tiny drops of water make a mighty ocean." I'd recommend not emphasizing on WHY (your qualities) that'd make you a great treasurer, but rather WHAT you will do that people will see you as great for.

Good luck!

house captains??? like.....HARRY POTTER?

Grab a catchy slogan. That'll do.

i ran for student council this year. i didn't win (not that i expected to) since it's a popularity contest and i'm just a loser spending all my time on cc. it doesn't matter how much i campaigned. one thing that bothers me, though- i actually calculated how many people would vote for me on a piece of paper and then accidently left it lying around- if anyone finds it, will they think i'm insane?

I won president at my school, and I think the biggest mistake would be to focus on academics. At my school at least, even subtly bragging about grades or academic standing is basically "political" suicide.

If enough people recognize that you'll do a good job and like you, you'll get it. Yes, it's a popularity contest in some ways, but why would I vote for someone I don't like to an important position?

Just go easy with it and be funny. I felt kind of bad because in my speech I said "I'm now going to list off adjectives" and sarcastically read a bunch out, and then the girl after me actually did read out a list of adjectives to describe herself.

yes there are four houses and we have captains.

focus on telling your friends to vote for you and telling them to tell their friends etc.

at my school the big thing was facebook groups "___ ____ for Senior Class President!": 65 members....etc. that way it gets on peoples newsfeeds and can get around the school easily

funny posters/catchy slogans are also good. a couple of guys, one running for President and one for Vice President are good friends and decided to work together to make a funny poster. There had been this joke among our circle of friends about how, while one was driving the other home, their car got a flat and they had to change the tire. and another friend who was in the car had taken a funny picture of them both working on the tire. so the blew up the picture and wrote "____ and ____ can change a tire in 15 MINUTES" [picture] "Imagine what they could do in ONE YEAR"
haha I thought that was cute

I really want to be on SGA next year but absolutely no one knows who I am. At my school it's a huge popularity contest, but all the people who run SGA don't even do anything. It's just something they want to put on their apps. I genuinely have an interest in doing SGA, though. Does anyone have any advice for what I could do to "build up" my reputation in the coming months?
