I’m wondering on what I should do since my school does not offer Calc BC. I thought about it, and realized that I could do an independent study and then take the BC exam at the end of my junior year. Currently I am doing an independent study in pre-calc and find that the material is actually pretty easy. I feel that doing an independent study would be the best option for me. However, I don’t know how much more difficult BC is in comparison to AB? How do colleges look at the two differently, for AB lacks topics such as Taylor series and series of constants. Finally, would it be worth it to do the independent study, for I would be taking 4 other AP’s (bio, chem, psych, and USH) along with it.
If your school only has AB then take AB and colleges will be ok. I personally don’t find BC too difficult but you will have a lot of other stuff going on so self studying might not be best. Generally, if a college is on a semester system, AB = Calc 1, BC = Calc 1 and 2. What are you planning to take as a math senor year? Maybe you could take Calc 2 at a local university or CC then.
