The deadline for turning in an early decision application to Yale and most other schools is November 1st, but Questbridge's notification of finalists will be about a week before that. Am I going to have to wait for Questbridge's email before I can start filling out all the forms and sending in the materials to early decision schools or can I fill out some of the application but not submit the final "I'm applying early action" signed document until I know if I am a Questbridge finalist or not? I just need to know if I will only have a short week to get everything fillled out and sent to Yale if Questbridge doesn't work. Thanks for any help you can give me. Here is a timeline to help:

Before September 30: send in all of the neccessary stuff to Questbridge

Early October: send in my materials to Yale but not officially "apply" yet since I am in a binding contract with Questbridge

around October 23rd: be notified of my finalist standing, if I am not chosen I must apply in the next week to Yale

November 1st: deadline to have everything submitted to Yale for early decision notification

Between September 30 and October 23, work on Yale’s application (in case you don’t make finalist) and applications for schools that require them for the QB Match process. That’s what I did. I was planning to apply to Yale SCEA too if I wasn’t selected a finalist but I still had to be prepared in case I did made finalist status. I ended up becoming finalist, so I just put finishing touches on the common apps for colleges that required them for the Match and submitted them during the week between finding out finalist standing and the November 2nd deadline. Until October 23rd, you have to assume that you are a finalist and prepare applications, financial documents, etc.

Were you accepted into Yale and, if so, what were your stats? Since I am from the Mid-West I didn’t even know about the SAT II Subject tests until a month ago. Even then it was because of my own research, not my schools. If I do not take the SAT or SAT II tests will I be at a disadvantage for the ivy leagues?

As long as you submit the ACT with writing, you are fine.

Zulatooka,

I’m not completely sure but I think some Ivies accept EITHER the ACT with SAT subject tests OR the SAT I with SAT subject tests. You can take the subject tests on October (I think the November scores might be a little late for the Match, but they can still be used for RD). Buy prep books now for subjects that you’ve taken recently and study!

I too had to go through the admissions process alone and was in a constant state of panic because I kept thinking that I was forgetting something important. It’s hard to do this alone but I think QB schools understand this. The QB app gives you more space to write and explain your story. Good luck!

I just looked up Yale’s standardized testing requirements and you can just submit the ACT with writing. But Princeton and Harvard for sure require SAT I and two SAT subject tests.

Oops, sorry. I was responding only regarding Yale.

I know that Yale only requires the ACT with Writing, I was just wondering if they are very biased towards wanting the SAT Subject Tests?

To MuffinFish-What were your scores and EC like? I have had to work every weekend for the past year and a half so I didn’t have the time to be involved heavily in competitive teams. However, I am active with volunteering oppurtunities and am actually working with the city I live in to make a documentary about it.

Schools do not prefer one standardized test over another.

My scores were high (2300+) but my EC’s weren’t as good because I couldn’t afford to do many activities. QB schools understand that kids applying through QB often have had to work and therefore had little time for “traditional” EC’s. If you would like more details about what I did or have any questions in the future, feel free to PM me. I’m also likely to respond quicker.

Lastly, I’m sorry to point this out but I’m not MuffinFISH. It just sounds too unappetizing!
