School is giving me credit for self-study!

So, I just finished up the AP Human Geography exam today (independent study), and my counselor informed me that if I score a 4 or 5 on the exam, she will give me AP-weighted course credit to go on my transcript with a grade of "A" for my independent study. I informed her that that wouldn't be necessary, but she thinks I deserve the credit for the independent study. No one in my school has done an independent study of an AP exam, and back in February when I asked her to sign me up for the exam, she was very surprised. She didn't think people do independent study of AP. AP courses carry a weight of 6.0 point to weighted G.P.A. and that will already put my valedictorian G.P.A. up even higher, so I see it as sort of pointless, but whatever. So, what do you think of this? Does your school do this?

i wish, but then again, I can't say. I don't think would I feel comfortable with asking...

but congrats anyway :D

No. Say what you have to say! ;)

2008's valedictorian at our school self studied AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics C in her junior year.

she received all 5's, yet the school didn't even acknowledge her.

sigh :[

Wow. That's pretty messed. Practically everyone in my school was all excited I self-studied Human Geography. No one at my school even passes AP exams (I am not exaggerating), so this was a pretty big moment for my counselors and principal.

Your val should have gotten some recognition! Jeez!

It doesn't matter most colleges don't do weighted GPA.

how can they give you ap credit if they have to be audited by the college board or whatever

I haven't the faintest idea, honestly. I told her I didn't think it would work in the system, but she insisted it would. I mean, I could really care less. My weighted G.P.A. is light-years ahead of everyone else's, so the additional AP weight is negligible. I just studied out of pure intellectual interest.

Wow OP, your school is awesome. I wish my school does that.

Many students in my school take independent study on AP courses. We don't get any grade for those courses though. The valedictorian of the graduating class this year took 7 independent study AP courses (5's on all of them).

lmao I wish my school was that awesome OP. I self studied two this year and will probably get 5's on both =D

I'm already val though so like you it doesn't matter for me.

Lucky...my school doesn't even give extra weight for official AP classes you're enrolled in, let alone self study. Congrats, though, on the GPA gap being transformed to an even greater amount.
