mpebbles - no problem! It feels like months since I read the first page of this thread - too much tension and suspense! - so I'm not surprised you would miss it. But yeah, the numbers are small, no matter how you look at it.

rainmama, I did not know the numbers are that small for film school. Luckily H&I told D we would not pay her to study film at USC so she did not apply for film school but a different major. Good luck to your son.

Does SCA ever waitlist anyone?

Columbia - Thanks for the good wishes! Probably a good call on your part - your D got in so early, which would have been awfully nice. And she can take film classes if she's really interested, so it's kind of perfect. I guess the silver lining for anyone admitted to an SCA major: serious bragging rights. CSA is far more selective than HYPS.

Has anyone spoken with the SCA admissions people to get more of a handle on what's going on? Or with an older SCA student who's been through the process?

No, but there was a kid last year who was a spring admit. I thought that was pretty weird.

Ohhh, I heard that they put only a select few on spring admit. That's all.

My status finally just changed from "We have received..." to "Your application is being reviewed". Any other SCA apps now in the same boat?

This countdown til April is killing me.

I think my son is officially the only CC SCA applicant still in "we received" now that Basil has moved on. Maybe tomorrow....

Basil- how was your visit and did you learn anything you can share with us while we wait?

The visit was helpful, to some degree. The ambassador leading the tour said he was currently helping with admissions decisions, and he offered some insight on the process. He said they still have stacks and stacks of applications to go through, and that they planned on working right up until April 1st. A prospective student on the tour kept asking what the main factor for decisions is, and the ambassador was very clear in reminding him that each applicant is judged holistically. He also said they plan on admitting about 50 students as film production majors this year. Other than that, he mostly just talked about the program, the classes students must take, etc.

Basil thanks for the information. I guess we will just have to find a way to wait until at least April 1.

Basil - congrats on the status change (I know, it's not much, but we take what we can get, right?) and thanks for the report. So working up til April 1 doesn't sound too hopeful for the decisions being included in the expected wave on 3/28. Did this person give you any hint about whether all the different majors are going to be sent out at the same time?

He made it seem as though most of the decisions, regardless of major, would not be released until April 1st.

Hey guys, I applied SCA, got into the university, and am still waiting on a letter from the SCA - anyone else in my boat?

Curious: your son is not the only one. My D is also in "we received" status for a couple of weeks now.

I did not apply to USC but a friend of mine at my school applied to Cinematic Arts and she was accepted today. She applied, I think, 1st choice for Film and 2nd choice as Critical Studies, and she told me she got into her second choice (Critical Studies). I live in Syracuse, New York.

mpebbles-so glad to hear we're not alone! I just checked a few minutes ago but still the same.

My S applied to USC, RIT, RISD, NMSU, and CALARTS for animation related programs. He has been admitted to RIT (Film and Animation), NMSU (Creative Media) and CALARTS (Character Animation). His is still waiting to hear from USC and RISD.

His status at USC changed to "in review" on the 14th. I spoke with someone from Admissions several days before that who made a point to tell me that his application package had been sent over to the Film School... not sure what that means, since there was a separate package that he sent as part of the application process.

I think that means that he is accepted for admission to USC. So now the film school will decide whether to admit him to their program. If they do not, then he would be admitted to USC as undecided.
