Since there have been many acceptances here this week, please visit the thread and list your good news--no need to post stats, this is just your major and your acceptance. :) And hoping the mail will bring more good news soon to the rest here. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/467491-applicants-usc-class-2012-a.html

We've been hearing some great things about Parkside so now my daughter decided to rank it first. Anyone else going in that direction? We have heard that the rooms are nice, spacious, clean and that the cafeteria is one of the best on campus. There is also an international atmosphere. The downside seems to be the distance from the library. I guess that these dorms are popular so if you are interested, you might want to apply soon. After the Parkside my daughter put the Radisson.

suenos, Parkside and Arts & Humanities (the newest dorm that is identical to Parkside) have very nice suites and the dining hall gets good reviews. All USC kids on meal plans can eat at either of the cafs, I believe, and both are good. We had lunch at EVK (the one near Birnkrandt) and it had fresh Mexican food, plus great pasta bar, etc, etc. All you can eat style. My S liked the pizza. Is your D thinking about getting a bike? The nice thing is, they can change their minds if they want (and my S already has) and select another dorm until May 1.

Wow!!! I just got some great news today. A week ago I got my USC acceptance and acceptance into my first choice major, which is Theatre. Well, I also applied for Critical Studies becasue I double majored. I thought that USC only admitted you to one major at the startand that you had to re-apply when you got there. It looks like I was worng becasue today I got a letter that said I was accepted into the Critical Studies Program! This was totally unexpected, but very welcomed :) Now I just have to call admissions and ask them what exactly to do becasue I've never really heard of anyone in this situation before.

Any thoughts?

P.S.- I'm super excited to be a "film" guy now! Before I felt like I would have just been, "That Theatre major on the Cinema Floor."

Winfrey -- Congrats, this is great! As I understand it, it is possible to double-major in Critical Studies, although difficult because of the SCA requirements. I actually ran into a Critical Studies soph. who was double majoring in Spanish, but he said that he had taken USC summer school courses to make it work.

congrats Winfrey, and can you let us know what you find out about double majoring in critical studies? thanks!

Did anyone get an admittance today for film programs? Do you think all the film school spots are gone? Any opinions based on the data?

I'm just not going to worry about it anymore. I have two long days of races this weekend and I'm just going to focus on doing well in them rather than stalking my mailbox. From what I've read on here and on facebook, a lot of SCA people who were admitted got into both their 1st and 2nd choice majors in SCA.

Whether this means those 2nd choices will open up more spots once everyone commits is beyond me, but here is to hoping...

Good luck!

Well Chinaski, I think that's the right idea to use that energy and run those races. I am doing all the worrying for my son - he seems pretty calm about it all. I am definitely rooting for you since you've been such a positive force.

Hey Chinaski good luck tomorrow, I will be rooting for you from the other side of the country. My son has preferred to stay totally away from these boards.
He applied to only Production, if not that he will go elsewhere. Good luck tomorrow and in your application. Good luck to everyone waiting on USC.
I am back to watching NCAA Bball.......

I stopped by USC on the way back from the airport today. Wow! It is an exciting school! Some film kids were making a film....looked fun to be a part of the crew. Theater students were doing some exercise outdoors....

We had time to check out two dorms. Parkside looks great! There was a library on first floor for studying. I talked to some students who said they loved living there. One student said that she had listed New first but is glad that she ended up at Parkside because of the quieter, less crazy atmosphere.

It was a bit of a walk to the main campus but not bad. Lots of kids had bikes.

We also visited Fluor. It was a little less attractive. However, it is right across from a workout room with step machines, etc. Also, it is very close to the SCA. I was surprised at the proximity. I don't know if the dorm is quiet or not. No students were around to talk to. They had a tv on the first floor. I don't know if they have a library.

So my son was accepted to the SCA as a Spring 2009 admit. He applied to critical studies, but the admissions letter just says "Major: Cinema-Television" without further designation. Does the area within the major get revealed later?

Not sure what S will do, as waiting til January was not part of the plan. It's kind of disappointing when you see so many kids getting admitted to both of their majors within SCA, but it also makes me wonder if they might move my S into a fall slot when all the 2-major admittees drop their second choice. I guess I need to talk to someone about the likelihood of getting moved into Fall - whether it depends on housing availability, or space in the major.

Advice, anyone?

Spring admits getting bumped up to the fall is not very common, but it might be more likely in the cinema school if and only if entering cinema students drop out. I know USC likes to keep a certain amount of cinema kids (25 production, 75 critical studies), so if some drop, they might bump your son up. However, not many people are going to drop before the fall after getting accepted to the best cinema school in the country.

If your son is serious about going into the cinema industry, he should definitely go to USC. Getting into the cinema program at USC, even as a spring admit, is a huge accomplishment. I would not count on getting into the fall though, but it is possible.

rainmama, you should receive a separate letter from SCA admission stating which track he's accepted into (production or critical studies) and a commitment letter.

some kids might choose other schools for better scholarships so probably a good idea to talk to SCA admission about being wait listed for fall. It doesn't hurt to ask.

I've read on other threads that some people prefer the spring admit. They said that they just did some required courses first.

We are sitting here in NC and received no mail today. My son applied for production.

^sitting there too

Not in NC though, in Texas........just waiting.

My D was rejected from Production today here in Northern CA

My D is either headed to Chapman - film production or NYU GSP for Tisch Film Production. Leaning towards Chapman at this point.

They are moving onto transfer students. I called today and the person I spoke to said that I app has been submitted to the comittee. She also said that I should be hearing something by mid April to early May.
