Timely, my s just listed an assortment of art, film, writing and music accomplishments. He has a 3.7 uw gpa and took his school's, small private, most rigorous classes. Its interesting how SCA chooses their students, I do think they really look for a diversity of interests and not necessarily an accomplished film portfolio, at least that is the case with my s.

Raimama, good news that your son's status was updated, my s rec'd his acceptance shortly after that happened. Good Luck

We were so excited when my daughter got in. We don't have what I would consider a "traditional" transcript so we were thrilled.

Good luck Rainmama. Sounds like you may receive some good news shortly.

Timely, has your son decided on Chapman or USC?

Last of Pirates, I don't think they'd have time to contact you if they weren't interested.

Best wishes everyone!

P.S. My daughter is still super interested in Radisson...anyone else thinking of that choice? She likes that she has just a double with a bath, a swim pool and is relatively close to New/North but can go home to study.

There is definitely been a pattern with status update and a quick turn-around with acceptances. Someone mentioned last week that it took a couple of days from going from "received" to "in review" to an acceptance packet. Armed with that information, when D's status changed on 3/20, I expected something on Sat.3/22 or Mon 3/24. Sure enough Monday there was an acceptance!

Suenos: Radisson looked interesting. We were thinking of visiting and seeing the choices first. Or is picking something right away really important, because it's first-come basis?

I don't think it's critical to pick the absolute top choice dorm immediately since students can change the order of their selections on-line up to a certain date. What is important is to sign up for housing as soon as accepted, since the date the student signs up determines the student's priority in getting his or her top choice(s). Unless I'm completely misunderstanding the system, it's best to sign up right away, with a list of tentative choices that can be changed later.

my s received a letter from SCA accepting him into his second choice but he has already been accepted into his first choice. Is this to give him a choice just in case he changed his mind? Also, we're from Canada, and the envelope was stamped with Canadian postage. It happened with his first letter too. Do they have an office in Canada? I did ask them but the person I talked to didn't know anything about it.

When my son talked to SCA about his application last week, they said that theoretically kids could get into both of their choices within SCA since the applications were reviewed independently.

Congratulations to your son bmom. This is a great problem to have. We are still waiting to hear if my son is admitted to USC and if he made it into either of his choices. So, we're a tiny bit jealous but really happy for you and your son. Anyone who put effort into the supplemental applications deserves good news!

Is your son's number one choice still his number one choice? Because it seems like he can re-evaluate now that he's in both! What programs did he get into if you don't mind sharing?

dwatnyu: I don't think it means a rejection. I was just making an observation for those people that got accepted in the last week -- they seem to have gotten their acceptances 2-3 days later after seemingly being in some status state for a long time, then changing to "being reviewed".

I don't really think the status changes mean anything, except they seem to be making decisions quickly right now as we are approaching 4/1.

Nester, my daughter took your advice and went ahead and signed up for the dorms. She put Radisson as first for now and then she put down the names of some of the others people have mentioned - Fluor, Birnkrant, and Parkside. We hope to visit again to see the dorms.

mpebbles, are you from Chicago? We met a very nice animation applicant (and her mother) from Chicago when we went on our USC tour!

Suenos -- My only concern about the Radisson, which might just be mom-paranoia, is that it's across a city street (Figueroa) from the main campus, which is fenced and gated. My questions would be, after dark, what kind of security is there between the main campus and the entrance to the Radisson. It's just a crosswalk away, but still... Maybe current USC students could address this, as it may not be a problem at all. And hotel-sized rooms and individual bathrooms certainly do sound appealing!

Bmom -- My S was in the same situation with the two letters, which didn't make sense to us since you'd think they'd wait and see if the first choice accepted the kid before going to the trouble of having the second choice consider the application. But it definitely added to the euphoria. I think the thing is that if your kid is sure he wants one program and not the other, to return the form saying that he's declining the second program asap so that SCA can offer the spot to someone else.

Congrats to bmom's S & kjl's S, and good luck to everyone who's waiting to hear.

Congrats kjl and bmom on your sons' acceptances to SCA. I'm curious where you are from and what are their majors. And are they certain they are coming to USC? Hang in there dwatnyu and reydel. It seems the cc group of applicants have been faring rather well. And no one has really figured out what the status changes mean.

Yes, I'd also like to know if there are safety issues!

Someone mentioned that his friend got into Radisson and has loved it. But on another list, someone who lives in North (and loves being in the center of the action) mentioned that his friend who lives at the Radisson feels isolated. My daughter loves to hang out with friends, but she also needs a quiet place to study and relax at the end of the day. She also loves the idea of a private bathroom, a swimming pool and workout center on the hotel grounds.

I hope we can hear from more people! We won't be able to visit USC for another month!

first choice is production and critical studies for second choice
s is very certain he wants USC, but we're still waiting for scholarship before we can commit, we are international and do not qualify for financial aid.

Madbean, my son was accepted into Production and lives in Chicago. USC is at the top of his list right now but waiting to hear from the rest of his colleges and also Financial Aid. We continue to be a very celebratory mood in the house.

Has anyone gotten into Northwestern for radio, tv, film? My son got in yesterday but is still waiting on USC SCA, his first choice. Any opinions on the Northwestern program?

Also, thanks madbean. My son is a little edgy wanting to know what his choices are so thanks for the calming post. We are really ready to hear from USC, one way or another.

He is in Chapman film production with lots of money, Northwestern, WashU St. Louis, LMU film production, UCLA, UC San Diego. News has been really good but still waiting for USC - his first choice of course.

We live in Rancho Mirage (Palm Springs area). We'd love to go visit the dorms NOW! but my daughter is leaving the country for five weeks so we can't. : - ( It'd be awesome if a group of film students all ended up at the Radisson or some cool place. Basically, while my daughter is very friendly and social, she wants a quiet place to study and sleep at night.

We are hoping to hear more about the dorms and where everyone chooses to stay and why.
