School of Cinematic Arts question

Does anyone have a clear idea of what students in Production do their first year versus what students in Critical Studies do? There seems to be more info on Production online.

The first year is not that different. Everyone takes CTCS 190, so production and critical studies are indistinct. Second semester, production students have the option of taking the 2-unit production elective, but only 16 get to do this each semester anyway so it's not a big deal. Most of the classes for production students especially, and critical studies students as well, are GEs and the language/writing requirements. The actual production sequence can't be started until second semester sophomore year anyway, no matter how many AP credits a person might have.

Thanks, makkuroi! This is very helpful, but raises a bunch of other questions: Is CTCS 190 pretty much the only film course Critical Studies and Production students can take freshman year? USC's GE requirements appear to be only 5 semester courses plus the language/writing course -- or do I have that wrong? Are film students expected to get these GE's all done during their first year at SC, before they start to concentrate on film, or is is possible to spread out the GE courses? Are there other electives in Film for freshman film students besides the 2 unit production course? Also, can a student in Critical Studies who is also interested in Production opt to take the 2 unit production elective, or is it reserved for Production students, given that there's only room for 16 at a time? Your info is appreciated.
