Transferring to SCA production

Hi all,

I've been admitted as a freshman but not to SCA under film and television production.

I'm wondering if I have a higher chance of being accepted if I apply as an in-school transfer? Also, will it matter that I've already applied once and not been accepted?

I heard that for the first 2 years production students mainly take non-mandatory introductory classes and focus on getting their core curriculum classes out of the way? Is this accurate? If so, when is the best time for me to transfer? After I've completed the core curriculum, correct? Finally, if I did transfer and were accepted with my core curriculum taken care of, would I be on track to graduate as a production student with my class?

Any other tips?

Thanks!

USC students looking to transfer to SCA need to complete the full supplement, just like students coming from other colleges. USC students must also have taken CTCS190–Intro to Cinema with a good grade, I believe. While current students don’t have an official advantage, since they are on campus and can meet professors and take SCA courses, they may get advice on their supplement and find other students who can help, too.

Apply as soon as you can, so that would probably be after first semester when you’ve taken 190. If you don’t make it, you have other semesters to attempt a transfer if you are still interested. GEs can be taken any time at USC, you do not need to get them out of the way first. And USC admits transfer students from CCs, so all BA major reqs should be able to be completed in the last 2 years.

Lastly, any USC student can declare an SCA minor, so if you begin taking some SCA classes, make sure they fulfill both minor and major reqs. Best of luck.
