School of Commerce

How easy is it to transfer to the school of commerce after your second year? Does anyone know what percent of people who apply get in?

Not very difficult as long as you don't slack off your first two years and your grades in the required classes are good.

Well according to Business Week, 644 people applied to McIntire for the 2005 academic year and the school only accepted 54%, so I would say it is pretty competitive. I have heard that the construction of the New McIntire Business School building will allow for increased enrollment, so it may become easier to gain admission in the future.

The downside of the current process is that you have to complete a significant number of pre-requisite courses to even be eligible to apply to McIntire. If for some reason you don't get in, this may make it more challenging for you to fulfill the requirements for another major in four years.

All-in-all, though if you complete the pre-requisites, maintain a decent GPA (~3.5) you shouldn't have a difficult time getting in.

i would venture to say that 3.5 is better than decent, espcially considering the average gpa for a 2nd year is 2.9.

does it help if you are already at uva for first 2 years, as opposed for someone who is attending some other university
