Hi everyone. I'm pretty pumped about going to UCSC fall 2013, but I was wondering how spirited the students are on this campus, and what opportunities there are to get involved. I was super involved in rallies and spirit events at my high school. So how is it at UCSC in terms of school spirit?

Much appreciated :D

bump

i would like to know about this too!

It’s pretty easy to get involved in college, you just need to take the effort. A lot of people enjoy getting involved with their residential college, so you can ask your RA about that. A few days after you move in, there’s a OPERS festival where all the clubs/frats/groups have tables where you can sign up for anything that interests you. Running for student government is also a great way to get directly involved with the school.

UCSC isn’t really known for school spirit, but that’s mostly because schools that have tons of school spirit are the ones that are good in sports (specifically football/basketball). So you can’t really compare it with USC, UCLA, Florida, Arizona St, etc. That doesn’t mean the school itself isn’t spirited though. I was in Washington DC last month and saw a guy was walking around with a blue UCSC sweater. Some other guy came up to him and yelled “GO SLUGS!”

Also, this may or may not apply to you… but I knew tons of people in high school who were super involved in high school rallies/events and most of them kind of stopped being involved at that kind of level once they got to college.
