Hey, long time lurker, but this is my first time posting here. I see lots of great advice on here. I was hoping you guys could help me find some good fits for me.
I’m planning for transfer by either Spring or Fall 2018
Academic history:
- Struggled last two years of High School and my first semester at a four-year university due to personal reasons. I feel like this is my biggest obstacle. High School GPA 2.8, first year of university GPA 2.1
- SAT: 1590 (Old 2400 system, willing to retake)
- Turned things around and now I have a 4.0 GPA over 31 hours at my CC.
- Current major is computer engineering, but I'm considering switching over to Mathematics or environmental engineering. Most likely to stay with computer engineering. (I was not enrolled in computer engineering at my old university, I was doing Aviation Management.)
Extra Curriculars:
- High School ROTC (I’m unsure if that really counts for currently transferring, sine it was two years ago, probably three years by the time I actually transffer)
- Volunteer at a hospital, helping kids with school work.
- I also have just recently got accepted into my school's honor college, but I missed the deadline to sign up for any honors classes this semester.
If I can keep my 4.0 up until I get to 60 hours, what are some colleges I could get into? My family doesn’t have much money, so this limits my options a bit. I don’t believe I have a cosigner capable of getting me a private student loan (probably for the best, I think). Hoping that I can get some scholarships so maybe I can afford a pricier college. I live in Florida by the way.
Schools I am interested in:
- University of Florida
- University of Miami (My number one pick, I'd be confident I'd get accepted but seeing as I'm strapped for cash this is probably a pipe dream)
- Florida Institute of Technology (tuition is a bit cheaper than most private schools, I think it's just hardly in financial reach for me. Especially since the school is generous in financial aid. Unsure if the school is worth it for the price)
- Georgia Tech (I feel like I'd have a good chance since they seem to not give too much weight in High School performance, but out of state tuition probably puts them just out of reach. They are a bit generous with financial aid it seems)
I would love some more suggestions. I’m pretty open minded to any in-state or out of state schools. Thanks in advanced!
