Hello everyone,

I am currently at a community college in New Jersey and am about to graduate next semester with a [expected] 3.7 (while working ~23 hours a week in IT). Classes for fall end next week and I'm still not sure on where to apply. I'd like to get out of state but I'm not sure where to go since my high school academic history wasn't very strong.

High School GPA: 2.7
SAT: 970/1600
Major: Computer Science

I have a couple of schools in mind such as: Florida state university, Purdue, University of Illinois, and University of Maryland.

I'm just not certain if I will be accepted to these schools along with their computer science programs, any advice would be appreciated.

bit of a reach, try u of alabama

Are all of the schools reach schools? Or would some of them only be reach schools? I’m getting my AAS in Computer Science (they don’t offer an AS here :p) so that has to mean something I hope.

I never bothered applying to any college in high school so I have no direction.

If you have the money, apply to all of your selected schools. Your high school transcripts “shouldn’t” need to be sent to the universities.

Honestly in my opinion, FSU should be a low reach school for you.
Purdue would be a higher reach along with the rest I believe.

As long as you have the GPA, Extracurricular activities, and are well rounded, you should have a competitive chance.

So far I’ve only applied to FSU and they required me to send my High School transcript (for language requirements I believe).

I don’t really have any extracurricular activities besides working, which relates a good amount to computer science (I do IT work at a software company).
