I know that college isn't like elementary school where they have a list of supplies you need to bring. In high school we didn't have that either. Teachers usually just told us necessary stuff we had to buy. Will teachers tell us what we need at notre dame? Anyone have a generic good list of school supplies? Thank you in advance :D

It is really up to you. The most useful information that you will get from your professors is wether you can use a computer…that may be a little bit harsh, but the professors won’t tell you that you need a three subject notebook, etc. … they will just start teaching so it really depends upon your study habits. If you like using notecards, then use them to study. If you like taking notes then bring notebooks. Some teachers will publish slides so you can print them off and write on them so you only really need a binder. But it is mostly up to you to determine what the most effective method is going to be. I would recommend going to school with a couple of everything and then buying the needed material from LaFun with flex points.

If you’ll be using your own printer, bring a good supply of paper. My student uses lots of the spiral-bound notebooks, which you can buy very cheaply at Wal-mart right now. As hawk noted, everything else really depends upon your own preferences.

One thing that is helpful is a large supply of cheap pens. Keep a few in your backpack and your room for the “can I borrow a pen?” requests. My younger sons do this at school to save their “good” pens from disappearing. Again, Wal-mart is your friend here. There should be no need to buy the overpriced merchandise at the bookstore.

Decent list that’ll get you through a semester:

3-4 three-subject notebooks

a couple packages of blue/black pens

a couple packages of pencils

stapler and staples

lots of printer paper and ink (if you bring a printer)

one folder per class and maybe a binder to keep them together

laptop bag

backpack

one good eraser

white out

post-it notes

calculator (TI-89 highly recommended for calc)

Don’t worry if you forget anything. Lots of people will be making wal-mart runs, and the bookstore has anything you’ll need.

This is such an old thread – not sure if the above post is an ad or what…but you just need to bring the essentials noted above (see @thickfreakness) and everything else you can get at the bookstore.
