Lots of experts over there.

I know that University of Cincinnati's "Cincinnnati's Conservatory of Music" has a very strong program in stage design. In fact, they even have a MFA in stage design too.

I don't know what state you're from , but check out SUNY Purchase in NY.

check out carnegie mellon. also, i have a friend doing lighting design at u-maryland college park and loves it and theatre scene, so I think that's worth checking out.

Emerson College, Ithaca, Syracuse, Purchase, UCONN, CMU

All private universities which offer scenic design are essentially the same price. One of the better programs which offers in-state tuition is Cal State Long Beach. Both are well-respected programs. The best undergraduate programs with national reputations and alumni networks are NYU Tisch and Carnegie Mellon, however.
