Hey i'm interested in either studying in the US and/or at a good IB school.
They either have to offer substantial FA or scholarship.
My family earns approx US$56000 per year
I'm involved in community stuff but more so in sport of which i am a very keen rower.
Any ideas you could have would be great i was originally going to apply for a UWC but i missed the date and i can't apply for next year as i am to old by about 1 and a half months
thanks

One way to identify schools that are “good” for international students is to look at a school’s international enrollment. Among the “top tiers”, Hotchkiss has 17% international, significantly higher than peer schools. In abolute terms, Exeter have more international students too - 12% of its student body but because its size you are looking at >120 international students. FA for international students is available but usually limited. You may want to explore schools that offer merit scholarships as well.

Schools do like international diversity, but it will be up to you to show that that you will be a positive addition to the student body to justify the school financial investment in you.

Northfield Mount Hermon’s two New Zealand students graduated last year. Currently NMH has two students from Australia, but none from New Zealand.

Founded in the 1880 as a school for Missionary’s children, NMH has always had a large population of middle-class missionary, diplomatic, international school teacher, and expatriate corporate students. One does not need to be the children of Kings to attend.

I didn’t get in the college I wanted and busy with these two options:
go to one of the college which has an easy admission or go to IB school and prepare for college admission again?
any advice and suggestion?

Looking for International schools around the world esp. in Asia and of course US where the school offer challenging courses.
How do community colleges compare to IB schools? (I know community colleges offer college curriculum) but should I risk going to community college or try to get IB diploma and apply for freshman admission again?
Any advice and suggestion?

to the op – if you row and have a great erg then you should research those schools most devoted to the sport. They may offer you some money. Although it seems to me you will be better off applying to US colleges as a rower from NZ

ok, I am completely confused. Are we talking about high school or university? Like by college do you mean it in the european sense or the u.s. sense?

^ it’s about choosing between high school and university. whether I should choose IB(11th and 12th grade) or community college(first two years to get an undergraduate degree). Which will have more chances to get into good four year uni and financially more feasible?

if you graduated from high school already why would you waste another two years going back to high school? community college is a college, and if you do well there you will have a chance to transfer into a 4 yr college

Susania – you need to provide more info so we can help. To start – what country are you from, did you graduate from high school in that country, how old are you, do you have the money to pay for high school/college ($40,000+/yr) and what is your goal as far as college?

IB high schools are meant for students who are high school age and have not graduated high school.

Community colleges grant college credit – you would attend a community college for 2 years then transfer to a university for the remaining 2 years of your degree.

NZR: You might look at SPS. They have a great crew, strong FAS and lots of international. I don’t think Hotchkiss offers rowing, but if you are a big sailor, they might be interested.

Hotchkiss, as has been previously noted, is extremely international. I know a guy here who was born in Virginia, but lived in Malaysia for ten years, then lived in brunei for three years, and now lives in Saudi AND is the son of two African immigrants from Uganda. Like I said if you are looking for an international experience Hotchkiss is the place to be.
