schools like UCLA, but easier to get into

Ah, yes, those are all excellent suggestions. Eugene is supposed to be great, but I don’t know how much it’s like Westwood.

Davis is actually a really good place, from what everyone’s told me. I’ve been, of course, but it was a bit too quiet for my tastes.

UIUC, Tufts, NYU, BC, Penn State, GWU, G’Town, and UMD might be good schools to consider. G’Town won’t be “easier,” but it’s about the same target market.

from what I heard UC Davis is actually very isolated and not much to do up there besides partying on campus

It’s isolated, but everyone I’ve met said they had a blast there. I’m just throwing it out as a potential option.

Schools similar to UCLA but easier to get into:

University of Florida

Syracuse University

University of Maryland

University of North Carolina - Chapelle Hill

University of Virginia

Cal State Long Beach

CC then UCLA :P.

dhl3: It’s University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.

If it was Chapelle Hill, I’d be going to get some of my grape drink there.

Just my own personal opinion here, but I do not put Long Beach State in the same category as UCLA as it is mostly a communter school. (Sorry for those of you who live in the dorms and think otherwise… this is based on info from kids who attended in the past two years and lived on campus).

yeah, except then i’m stuch at home for the next 2 years

There are CC’s where you can dorm there now.

UNC is NOT easier to get into OOS than UCLA lol. In fact, their avg SAT for OOS students is around 100 pts higher than UCLA’s avg, and they accept a lower % of anb already self-selected pool. Same goes for UVA.

that being said, UCB isn’t easier either, as their SAT/GPA averages are higher as well, though I will agree that both are very similar in admissions expectations.

UT-Austin, U-Washington came to mind. UW is the best of those two, i believe.

vc08,

UNC isn’t much easier, but it’s worth a shot as a similar university. Same for UVA.

I actually think some years UCLA’s average SAT has been higher than Cal, but it’s pretty darn close.

UW?! No way man… you’ll drown in the rain. . . :frowning: :(

UCD is not isolated. It is 12 minutes from downtown Sacramento. As for spirit the Aggie pack is amazing and the school is fun! Why don’t you try to make a visit so you can see for yourself? My daughter and her friends are never bored.

Huge internship program
Huge intramural program
27 D1 sports including football! (brand new stadium)
Huge school spirit (the Aggie Pack)
Great fraternity and sorority life (with a frat row) work hard play harder
Wonderful safe college town with all kinds of activities designed for students
Nice reasonably priced housing
Gorgeous campus
103 majors

which brochure is that from?

UVa and UMich are on par/below UCLA

No, it’s about the same.

Uhh… what does this even mean?

If Cal’s admitted student body is largely the same as UCLA’s… then it stands to reason that UCLA’s competing as well.

By the way, this is NOT a “WOOOO CAL IS GREAT” or “WOOOO UCLA IS GREAT” thread. Please refrain from trying to bash schools.

UCLA is not a peer of W&M in any way, except being state-supported. Like comparing Duke and UNC

swish14,

In what regard is it not a peer?

San Diego State.

U miami? how is USC a lower option than UCLA? If you can’t get into UCLA, i think USC is out of the question.

Texas, Boston maybe
