Schools similar to Cal-Poly SLO

Hi Y’all I visited Cal-Poly San louis Obispo and loved it. I loved how much they focused on undergraduate teaching, how students get to do research, and how happy the students seemed. The one thing is Cal Poly would be a reach for me, I am out of state and not a tippy top applier.

About me:

Math Major
3.7 gpa (dual-enrolled similar to a head start program) This is considered a very high gpa for my program.
1320 new SAT/ 28 ACT
Oregon resident
Total cost of school should not exceed 45k/year (with very little federal aid expected)

my test scores aren’t great but with dyslexia and anxiety I do not test well. I have done a full year at my community college as a high schooler and kept a 4.0 in rigorous classes. I do believe that shows my college readiness better than a standardized text. I’m still a freshman applicant though because all my credits are done before freshman diploma.

I’ll have taken through multivariable calculus and the 200 level chemistry sequence.

ECs: volunteering at metropolitan science museum giving presentations and running chemistry lab.
tutoring to inner city students through non-profit
Helping elderly with technology at residential home

Would prefer lower party life, a diverse student body, and a school that would give me great opportunities to get me into grad school. As for location think western undergraduate exchange minus hawaii. College town or urban environment preferred.

Look at Cal Poly Pomona. Same teaching philosophy, emphasis on STEM but an easier admit.

Still worth an application to SLO also.

I will definitely still apply to SLO, it may be a reach, but if I get in its still affordable.

I know two students who transferred out of Cal Poly SLO last year for the same reason-they could not get the classes they needed to make academic progress.
Have you visited your in-state options?

Of course, but they have there own negatives as well.
