schools similar to jmu in northeast

I'm from central new york (syracuse area), and I really love James Madison University in VA. I'm going to be a clarinet performance major and was wondering if there are any schools with great music programs in the northeastern area that are similar to JMU. My parents just dont want me to go 8 hours away, so I have to look for other schools. What I like about JMU is:
-they have a great music program
-they have a phenomenal clarinet professor
-they have an amazing marching band (i keep hearing that their marching band is like a big family, and in their videos you can tell how much fun theyre having...id just really love to get an experience like that and to keep marching in college because its an activity i really, really love)
-I love the crazy amount of school spirit that JMU has and the sense of community on campus...everyone talks about how jmu is known for "holding doors open" for each other and the friendly atmosphere
-I also think they have a gorgeous campus

Thanks for the help.

UMass Amherst has an amazing marching band. The just built a new facility for it. It’s in a great college town and based on what my son tells me it’s a friendly place. And the food is great.

Penn State has an awesome marching band- the kids have a blast. You audition. Not sure what the music program is. Huge school, nice campus, syracuse like weather  sorry…
Univ of South Carolina- Columbia; automatic $7K scholarship if in Marching band - but i believe you apply. Beautiful campus, reasonable tuition with merit awards, Great overall expereince there. Hard to get to the school but it does not dissappoint. Apply & the tuition award $ might be one you cannot refuse.

I don’t know abt U Delaware’s music/band program- but really beautiful state school, not too big (reminds me a bit of JMU) - check it out.

thank you so much! ill check out all of these :)

Livesinnewjersey is right about USC, but if parents don’t want OP 8 hours away in VA I doubt they want her another 7 hours away in SC! But from a flying standpoint may actually be easier to reach than JMU.
