Schools' Social Media Accounts

Just a gentle reminder to applicants - follow the social media of the schools to which you are applying. With a daughter at Cate and a son at St. George’s, I have really been enjoying following their schools’ accounts on Instagram. I think that both do a great job of conveying all that is special about two wonderful (and very different) schools. Follow along with the schools on your list, and I’m sure that you’ll pick up a good feeling for the culture at each.

Great suggestion! You will also find you may have more insightful questions during tours and interviews… “I saw a picture on your FB page of a group heading out for a camping trip. Do you have activities like that every weekend?” “Are auditions required for the chorale that toured Europe?”

+100, @GMC2918 !! Fun and informative!!

Also- just a quick reminder: If you’re a student applying to BS, tidy up all your social media accounts, too or lock them up so they’re private. Some parents ( cough- not all- cough ) would be smart to do so , too…

Or, parents, if you use the same screen name for everything, and follow your kid’s friends on various social media platforms, you might be known around campus by your screen name and even make it into the yearbook…

Why would a parent follow your kid’s friends?

Regardless, kids, if you get a friend request from the parent of your friend, feel free to not accept it.

^^^My rule is not to send friend requests to kids; but I have accepted friend requests from them.

Same rule here, @AppleNotFar. No friend requests to the younger generation, they must friend request me.

However, if you leave your profile or social media open, stocking is fair game. Particularly helpful with new bfs and gfs. B-)

Indeed! :bz

lots of people have parents that follow friends. it’s not uncommon. many kids have 500+ followers and don’t really care about who follows them in general. i accept all of my requests unless it’s scammy or a college

I think most of this generation prefers leggings to stockings. >:)

good catch. old brain. I remember thinking it didn’t look right. :stuck_out_tongue:

You can sometimes find interesting results by doing a YouTube search using the name of a school, and sometimes even just by the name of a dorm at a school. I am always amazed and appalled by how dopey some smart teenagers can be.

@judbeeski, same goes for instagram searches…
