Hey, I took the SAT in January and got a phenomenal score (I can post it if requested). As you may expect, it was too late to start applying to private schools. However, next year I plan to apply to a couple of private boarding schools for 10th grade in fall 2014. I know that most of the top private schools want SSAT scores, but I really don't want to study again for a different test, and I don't have any time this summer either to study.

Does anyone know any prep schools that accept SAT scores (as opposed to SSAT and ISEE scores) for 10th grade?

I know that Stanford OHS is one of them, but I would like boarding schools.

Also please don’t tell me to start studying for the SSAT or anything like that. If you don’t have an answer, don’t reply.

Many boarding schools will accept the SAT; however, it is your January testing date that is problematic, not the choice of test. Many boarding schools have limits on how old the test results can be.

Generally, the top schools will not accept test scores from test dates earlier than the Fall before the application deadline. They don’t want “old” scores.

Here is an example:
[Loomis Chaffee: Testing](http://www.loomischaffee.org/page.cfm?p=901)

I would also check w Stanford OHS to see if it also has restrictions on how old SAT scores can be.

Andover, Choate & Exeter (just a few random examples):
All say to complete your testing during the school year in which you’re applying. SAT is acceptable for 11th or 12th grade, but not 10th at these schools.

As GMTplus7 said the January date is going to be an issue for any testing. Though it does look like SAT isn’t really considered for entering 10th grade.

If your SAT was over 2000, don’t worry about studying for the SSAT. It won’t be an issue. You can’t really get out of taking it. The schools need it. It will be to your advantage to have an SSAT on file because they get comparative data along with your test scores. Just make sure you know how to do analogies and the SSAT will be cake. No need to spend hours studying. Good luck!

To second neatoburrito - if you did well on the SAT, then SSAT should not be a problem. Get the book from SSAT and do some practice ones this summer. That will show you if there is any area you need to review. Otherwise, take the SSAT in the fall and you’ll be done.

Think of it this way:

Limiting your boarding school pool to only those that will accept your old January SAT scores, solely because you dont want to take another standardized test, is like limiting your dating pool to only guys/gals who will go out with you if you dont want to bathe
