I've already applied ED to NYU. While it's my dream school, it's also very much a reach school for me, and I'm preparing my regular decision application list. Here it is!:

Boston University
Drexel University
Emerson College
Marymount Manhattan College
(New York University)
School of Visual Arts
University of Vermont
Vassar College

I know for some of you 7-8 might seem like a lot, but I really want to make sure I have more than one or two options when it comes time to make the final decision (given I don't get into NYU). I need a few safeties. Not just academic, but financial safeties. Preferably in either the Boston or New York City areas (Drexel is a bit of a stretch for me in terms of location, and I'm only applying as a safety).

I'm in the top 10 % of my class, more than solid GPA, SAT scores, etc. (Not to sound cocky, but I'm quite proud of myself! Ha!) I plan to major in Film but I would still like a core liberal arts curriculum. So, what schools do you suggest I add to my list!?

Thanks in advance for the help!

What are your stats?

I’m wondering why you need financial safeties? You seem concerned about getting into NYU, but you don’t seem concerned about paying for it. If you can’t pay for NYU, then even if you get in, how will you afford it? NYU is notoriously bad with aid.

I’ve got plenty of help for paying for NYU, but that help won’t work if I attend most other schools… long story that I don’t feel like launching into on the internet! Regardless, here’s my basic thought process - NYU is my #1 choice and I’m more than confident their price is very much worth the education. However, if I wasn’t going to one of my top choices (NYU, Emerson, Vassar, BU, SVA), I certainly would not want to pay as much because I would feel they education simply wasn’t worth as much… Judge me if you will, but that’s my mindset. What I’m looking for are schools that I would like to go to if all my other options failed, that I could get into, and their price was worth their education.

Stats.
GPA: 3.6 unweighted
All honors and CP classes available (my school has no AP or IB)
Academics
I’ve got a 3.6 GPA (unweighted) and a 4.5 GPA (weighted).
Freshman year: All A’s in my classes except for a C+(78%) in gym class (which has killed my GPA) and a B (86.0%) in algebra 1
Sophomore year: All A’s in my classes except for a B(85.9%) average in a year long English class and B-(82.5%) in gym class (again, gym class killed my GPA)
Junior Year: All A’s in my classes except for a B+ (89.9%) average in Screenwriting
Senior Year: Straight A’s and A+'s as of right now.
I take 5-7 classes per semester on a 4 block schedule, and I take the hardest classes possible. While my school is small, we require the highest amount of credits to graduate in the state, and I’m well beyond that credit count already.
SAT CR+M+W=1950. Some say that’s low, but I’m not a good test-taker generally, so I’m proud.

I think you’ll get in. Last year, those who applied to Tisch got in with lowish scores.
