schools to apply to late in the game / have late auditions

Can anyone please name some schools that could be added late or have late auditions that are still taking apps ? Again have a friend in need of add ons. Or can you copy a thread link for previous lists?
Thanks!

I would suggest checking the big list thread and then find schools with rolling admission. I’m pretty sure LIU Post has some late audition dates, Kent State has one March 2. Rowan University also has a couple dates in March.

If you go to getacceptd you can do a search by theatre, music or performing arts and find schools that way too. I remember doing that last year for someone. I think Hartt, U of Arts and Belmont were late applications. Also, I remember a post here about “still accepting” or something similar in past years that you could search on this forum.

Last year, Wilkes and Seton Hill (both in western Pennsylvania) had late audition dates

Pretty sure SIU Carbondale accepted one or two students after the last official audition date. Don’t know if they auditioned individually in person or by video. They have an on-campus audition Feb 23 (see Sunday in the Park with George for free!) My daughter is very happy with the program.

IUP (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) which is also located in western PA will schedule late auditions. You have to apply and be accepted to the university before you can schedule the audition.

SUNY Fredonia still has 4 audition dates left for MT - February 2, 9, 23 and March 2.

@techmom99 SUNY Fredonia is a pre-screen, though.

@NYKaren -

I didn’t realize that Fred is a pre-screen school. My S17 is in the tech side. He was supposed to put his portfolio up on GetAccepted 2 years ago (or whatever it’s called) and I couldn’t figure out how to do it, so we called and they waived that and he just went up for an in person interview, which was another story altogether. My son has switched from the BFA to a general theater BA and loves it even more now that he no longer has to take artsy classes.

I’ve seen a couple of shows up there and they have been excellent. In addition, auditions are open to all majors and non-BFA kids are cast. This could be a byproduct of the fact that Fred is known as a music school, as its music education program is well thought of and a number of those kids participate. S17’s roommate is a music ed major and has had parts in the operas which the school also puts on. My son jokes that he is the only non-musical kid there as he neither sings nor plays any instruments, while everyone else he knows does one or both.

Fred sounds like a great school and has a great reputation for music and the arts in general! Awesome that they waived the upload and just did a personal interview! I actually regret that we didn’t get to audition there (it was supposed to be the 3/2 audition, but my son committed already and we withdrew). It seemed like such a supportive environment. We are in NYC, so it would definitely have been a hike for us!

We are on LI and it is definitely a hike. However, he is really happy. Even though he switched out of the BFA, he is still getting ME assignments and is part of the group. I hope that your son thrives and enjoys the program he will be attending. The primary consideration for our family was financial. I couldn’t beat the cost of a SUNY and it helped that this particular school is well thought of in his major.

@techmom99, Thank you! I am glad your son is where he is supposed to be as well. No, you cannot beat the cost of a SUNY. He will be going to Nazareth in Rochester, NY. With the talent and merit money, it is slightly above the price we got from SUNY Fred & SUNY Cortland, but not crazy, thank God!

SUNY Geneseo has MT auditions this coming Saturday (March 2, 2019).

I can’t speak to the MT program, but overall I think SUNY Geneseo is an underrated little gem of a school; the departments my son looked at, geography and physics, were strong.

I just found out Kent Sate is having an overflow audition on Mar 15. If you contact them now, you can possibly get a spot to audition. My daughter has another audition that day, otherwise, we’d be there!
