Hey everyone I could really use some advice..I attended UCSD my freshman year and due to a variety of reasons failed out of engineering with a 1.5 gpa. I've been at my local CCC for the past two years and have retaken all the classes I failed at SD and continued to take prerecs for bio/biochem, the only prerec I have left is O-Chem and I'd prefer to take that after I transfer. I applied to UCD and UCR this past school year thinking I had a shot because my counselor said I'd get in without any problems...unfortunatly looks like you cant be on bad standing at one UC and transfer to another UC, for that reason UC's are out of the picture. I currently Have a 3.3 GPA at my community college...I was hoping you all could recommend some schools for me to check out, preferably those with strong bio/mcb/biochem programs. Thank you in advanced.

Have u checked out the CSUs in Cali? After that, the only other school I’d see is USC. You can’t stay at UCSD?

I am definitely considering going the CSU route, I’m not sure which ones are strong in the field of biology though…anyone have an idea? I’m also looking at USC (which I doubt I have the grades for) Santa Clara, and University of the Pacific…I’d like to go back to SD but I dont want to have to deal with those bad grades again and would prefer a “fresh start”.

How much can you afford?

While id like to keep the cost of my education low I can afford schools like USC which are going to end up costing around 50k a year…I’d also consider out of state publics and privates I’m just not sure what schools I should be looking at which wouldn’t put too much weight into my freshman year grades. Thanks again.

In that case, you may want to look at OOS public flagships if you originally wanted to go to a UC. Many of these schools will be far more forgiving than California publics and have good to great biology/biochemistry. They’re usually just as transfer friendly as the UCs, and some publish the necessary GPA to get into the various colleges within the university.

You can try pepperdine.

Korsgaard that’s a really interesting suggestion I’ll check out that school as I don’t really know much about it…whenhen have any idea which OOS schools are transfer friendly :P

I hope it doesn’t seem like I’m just “asking for the answer” I’m doing my own research and trying to figure things out I just really appreciate input and advice, thanks for all of the help.
