hi I am a freshmen at a not so prestigious liberal arts university. My major is biology and I am on the pre med track. I just got done with my first semester and have a 4.075 gpa. I also have 24 credits from high school. I did not do that well on the sat with only a 2000 and since my parents do not have money, I did not get into many prestigious institutions when applying in my senior year. But now since I did good my first semester, I am thinking about transferring. What is an affordable good school which I could transfer to. I live in the south. Also my parents are not that wealthy so adorable institutions would be best. Please help!! Thanks
Some colleges on this list have excellent financial aid programs and may prove to be affordable for you: “The Experts’ Choice: Colleges with Great Pre-med Programs.”
If you’re doing well at your current college, why leave? You don’t need to attend a prestigious college to get into medical school. If you hate it there or it’s unaffordable, of course, transferring may be a viable option. If that’s the case, you should clarify what you don’t like about your current college so posters can give you good suggestions.
Keep in mind that it is usually more difficult to get into selective colleges as a transfer than as a freshman.
Thank you. I will definelty look at the list. Also I live in Georgia and was wondering if Georgia tech would be out of my reach? It would probably be most affordable since I would get my tuition covered with the zell miller scholarship.
I mean I am not looking at an Ivy League or anything. its just the liberal arts college I am at right now has a small percentage of kids who get into med school and I want to go to a med school which is at least in top 40s. Also I do not really like my college becuase its just filled with a lot of kids who are not serious about school and just want to party. It’s really hard to be motivated when everyone around you just wants to party…
You’d be better off GPA-wise at UGa
But I mean I got into UGA when I was applying the last time and decided not to go becuase again it does not seem like the school for me.
GT is so filled with extremely strong STEM students, so your GPA could take a serious hit when taking courses like Ochem, physics, and biochem.
Have you taken Bio I and II and Chem I and II?
I have taken chem 1 this semester and am taking Chem 2 and bio 1 next semester. And have my gen eds and calculus requirement done also
If you’re really set on transferring, I highly recommend UNC Wilmington. Great bio program, superb location just five miles from the beach. Mid-sized, growing university with one of the top values in the South. You can’t go wrong.
