I am currently a freshman studying Animal Sciences at LSU. I ultimately want to go to vet school, if I can get in. I am originally from California and have only lived in Louisiana for about 4 months now. I feel like I could handle a more challenging school.
Trouble is, there are are a handful of schools that have animal science/ zoology majors AND accept sophomore or lower-division transfer students.
So… What should I do? Should I try to apply to UC Davis? Or maybe enroll in a California Community College? Stick it out at LSU?
Does anyone know of schools that have have animal science/ zoology majors AND accept sophomore or lower-division transfer students?
Here are my stats:
ACT: 32
SAT: 1360
High school GPA: 3.86
College GPA: Should be around a 3.9 (5 A’s and 1 b)
Extras: I didn’t get involved in many extracurriculars in high school, but so far in college I have joined Alpha Delta Pi sorority, Pre-vet club, Animal Care for a Cause Club, and I have volunteered at the local animal shelter, dog washes, and spay and neutering.
Honestly I would stick it out at LSU. It is a fine school for pre-vet. You will get a good education there. If you find it easy you can get the highest grades and have choices for vet school! I promise the courses get harder as you go along! The only reason I would transfer would be money (if is is cheaper to go where you would transfer and that would save you money for vet school).
I agree you should stick it out and after Freshman year if you still feel you want to transfer, then a target school like UC Davis would be an option as a Junior level transfer. Return to California, complete your transfer requirements at a CC and apply for the following year.
It may not matter as much where you live as where your parents live. If they are still in California, great. If not, you will find it hard and expensive to move back.

What exactly do you mean by this? Have you identified every single place that offers that major and checked their transfer requirements?
Run a search for your major with College Navigator https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/ Then read the transfer application information at the websites.
If unsure, then just apply as a transfer to UC-Davis. If accepted, then decide whether you prefer to remain at LSU or to transfer to UC-Davis.
