Transfer student - Changing majors

I applied to Davis as an Animal Biology major because according to assist.org I did not qualify for acceptance for the major Biological sciences because I received a C in both my lower division general chemistry class at my community college. I got accepted to Davis off an appeal but now my question is… If I do decide to SIR to Davis, will I be able to change majors to Biological sciences, even though I received C’s in my lower Division Gen. Chem. classes? I know I have to wait a quarter to change majors, but is there any other requirements like the ones to transfer on assist.org?

Yes, you can change majors after transferring, and it’s fine if you got C’s in your lower division gen chem classes. I don’t think there’s even a minimum GPA requirement to get into the College of Biological Sciences, but usually, getting a minimum 2.0 GPA in all related coursework is enough. You can even take classes not related to Biological Sciences during your first quarter at UCD and still get in–after all, my apartment mate (formerly my suitemate back in the dorms) switched from Biological Sciences to Animal Science, and she didn’t even take any animal science-related classes during her first quarter before switching! As far as I’m aware, only the College of Engineering has other requirements to change to a major in their departments other than waiting a quarter.

Thanks. I was just worried because I wasn’t sure if the minimum 2.5 GPA for Gen chem was just for transfers who want to go straight into biological sciences or if it was a major requirement for everyone, even current UCD students.

The whole GPA requirement for getting into certain colleges is only for incoming transfers and freshmen. All that goes out the window once you’re enrolled at UCD (the exception being the College of Engineering).
